My PC is Windows XP, sp2, with Avast antivirus and IE Firewall. About month ago I instaled Ad Aware 2007 free. It updated itself imediately after the instalation and then I set it on "Automatic updates". Then I ran a deep scan, successfully removed the "infections/high risk objects" found and went on using the PC. I used the PC for about two weeks and then resumed using it couple of days ago and then the problems started.

Of course first I red the FAQ --> http://lavasoft.com/support/faq_aaw2007.php#11 and followed the appropriate instructions but nothing helped.

1. The setting "Automatic update" did not work (the button was red) and the last updates were from a month ago. How do I make it work so once set on "AUTO" it stays this way.

2. Tried to update manualy, turning OFF the IE Firewall and the AVAST (there is a "PAUSE" button) - still nothing. Either a smal anouncment "Waiting to retrieve updates" sits for hours, or a message "SSL download failed" apears. Same message appears when I try the "Web update" from the AdAware menu. How can I update my Ad Aware 2007 Free manualy.

3. Then I ran a scan, without new updates which I couldn't download. The settings were on default, that is "Ignore objects with TAJ lower than 3" on the scaning mode and "Automaticly remove infection with TAJ higher than 10" on the manual scan' mode. The manual scan found some 10 infections with TAJ of 4. I checked them (a V on the smal button, of the group as a whole, and then again on the second atempt on each of them) but I couldn't remove or quarantine them.

Will someone advise how to remove these infections please. Can I leave the setting on default or set them differently, regarding the TAJ numbers, and other settings too?

Hi biggrin.gif
pls try this firstly...
use a Download-manager ( DownThemAll f.ex.)and safe the whole file to desktop.
Let us know if this is possible or not.

Found some links in Google to DownThemAll f.ex., nothing specific on DownThemAll f.ex. If I understand correctly I'll have to download AND switch to Mozila, just to download this DownThemAll f.ex.?

TNX for the fast reply.

In general I download lots of stuff, so I presume I can download this DownThemAll too. What I'm asking is do I HAVE TO switch to MOZILA or I can keep using the good old IE?

No, you can use the ie own down loader, but try to safe it on your desktop so that we can start a clean install.

OK, it's downloaded and saved on the desk, the name is DownThemAll 1.0.1-fx+tr+sm.xpi

ok
this download was ok.( do nothing ! this was only a download test )
try the same procedure with Ad-Aware 2008 ( save the whole file to desktop , don't run it )

to clarify
we have to check if it is a problem with your machine
or with the last downloads ( corrupt file )

WOW, tried for second time to download 2008 - 7.1.0.8, it takes more than an hour, 20 MB at 5 kb/sec., all other aplications closed exept this dialoge.

Look, I'll download it, update it, run a scan and if I have some problems will ask here latter.

TNX for the adwise anyway.

However
Have a nice weekend
If you come in trouble with 2008, feel free to start a new thread.
To avoid any confusion I close for now.
