Greetings.
To begin, this is my first time in the forums, so I will introduce myself. I'm Brandon. Hi!
Anywho, the last two installation attempts I had were (1) with the Ad-Aware 2008 Beta (downloaded from filehippo.com), and (2) the 30-day Ad-Aware 2008 Pro (from the main site). Both times, I have recieved this message :

QUOTE
Error 1316. A network error occurred while attempting to read from the file : C:\Program Files\Common Files\Wise Installation Wizard\WISDED58BOBB67C4244AE6AD6FD3C28D1EF_7_0_2_0_6.MSI

From there, I went and searched for any particular answer that might clear this error up, and found that I'm not the only one who has received these errors. Unfortunately, none of the answers has worked for me so far, seeing as the Windows Installer Cleaner didn't even pick up anything for Ad-Aware, nor did I find anything for Ad-Aware in the registry (through regedit).
I pondered for a few moments, and then began to search through my application data files, finding, again, nothing that might turn a response into a favorable situation. I kept looking, and then it came to me, why not look for the file that it's attempting to read from???
I quickly went to the above directory, and found that the file that it is attempting to read, is not there. At all. Even with hidden files showing. Could this be the problem, perhaps? If so, is there any way to resolve this issue?
The picture is that of both the installation error, and the directory in which it is searching in. I hope this may help someone figure it out. Let us work together to figure out the answer, rather than ask for help! With this, we can then help those who are truly clueless laugh.gif

Hello Brandon,

Thanks for posting.

I tried the same on my Vista and encountered problems not only with the Windows Installer Package but also with the Interactive service error (even though I had allowed interactive service).

Any way, I also got that same Windows installer and error message was a bit different (see below) Click to view attachment

and it also failed to install as you have shown with your error.

I've reported this to the Head office so am awaiting a reply. I suspect this package is damaged and may need to be replaced with a correct one. I had no problem with other versions of the new Ad-Aware 2008 Pro.

Hi Brandon,

Upon investigation it seems that having had the Ad-Aware 2008 beta on your machine (which was a version of Pro) it thinks you have already trialled this product 2008 Pro (which you sorta did with Beta 2008). That's why the install fails for the Pro trial.

I also had the Beta 2008 on the Vista machine that failed the install of the Pro Trial from PC magazine.

You can install and trial the Plus version for 30 days. That still works

For anyone reading this, you should not have a problem installing the 30 day trial of Pro as long as you didn't have the Beta 2008 installed previously.

I tried it on a fresh Vista install that did not have the Beta 2008 on it previously and the Pro trial installed fine.

I spent hours trying the different solutions listed. In the end, it took a few minutes to fix by going to Add/Remove Programs, choosing Change and then Repair. Once the 2007 version was fixed, 2008 downloaded without issues.

Tried that. It "fixed" something, but now it's looking for that missing file in a new place and not finding it.
