Hi guys,

I really badly need your help, because I can't use Ad-aware any longer.
I'm running Ad-aware SE Personal v1.06r1. My OS is Win 98 SE with IE v6.0.2800.1106.

A few months ago, the automatic update of the definitions stopped working for me (after the infamous 5% download progress). The FAQ advice from Lavasoft implemented by me improved nothing. Therefore, I switched to manual updates (download, unzip with WinZip to the SE Personal folder and then opening Ad-aware). This procedure resulted in having updated definition file whenever required.

Unfortunately, my last successful update performed that way was with R247. Yesterday, I failed for the first time, while updating with R251 and today with R252.

To be more specific, on opening Ad-aware I get the following warnings:
"Error while loading the Ad-aware definition file",
and then after start, i.e. already from within Ad-aware:
1. 'Definition file not found or corrupted' and
2. 'Definitions not loaded or invalid'
.

Let me add here that:
The new definition files are always loaded from the same link.
Each time a new one replaces the old def file(during extraction).

I did some additional testing proving that the earlier def files, load properly to Ad-aware.
In other words, the problem is caused solely by the new def files from R251 onwards (precisely speaking, I didn't try to download R248, R249 & R250, as on basis of previous experience it would be strange to expect 5 updates a week). In my opinion these new def files are really corrupted either by chance, or on purpose.

Needless to say that I'd be glad to upgrade to the Ad-aware 2007, but this product doesn't work with Win 98se, which I still have to use on my system.

Many of us Win98 users are having the same problem. There is nothing wrong with your program, though. Until we get a response back from the LavaSoft Team about whether we can continue getting our def files for Ad-aware SE, my suggestion is to recover the Def Zip file for May 13 from your Recycle Bin and reinstall that one. wink.gif

"Many of us Win98 users are having the same problem"

Of course, I would do so, but this is no longer possible. I allowed a new defs file to replace its predecessor automatically, during download. Therefore the only defs I'm having on my machine is R255.
Any idea where to download previous defs files from?
