When Ad-Aware gets to "Preparing GUID scanning" it stops I have Windows XP Media Centre and had no trouble until a couple of weeks ago - I did post in the forum but got no answer so have downloaded another manufacturer's spyware programme which works well but would like to use Ad-Aware 2007 again - any help?

Sometimes AAW 2007 can get hung up on large, compressed & archived, or corrupted files. Open AAW 2007 and go to "Settings > Scanning > Scanning options" and select "Skip files larger, changing the file size down to 10,000 or even 5,000. Then try running both Smart and Full scans. If they work properly, you can increase the size up to say, 20,000 and if scans still complete, try 30,000.

Should this work-around not be successfully, try stopping the scan just before it gets to the stalling point and cleaning out any items detected. Then try re-scanning to see whether the scan runs any longer - if it hangs again at a further point, follow the same procedure until you are able to finally complete a scan.
