I have Windows XP/SP2 and Norton 2005 on an up-to-date well-maintained PC.
I had Ad-Aware 2007 Free installed and regularly, after successfully updating definitions, a message would appear – “There are new software updates available. Would you like to go to the download location”. On clicking yes I was offered Updates for GUI Version 7.0.2.6 ; LangEng Version 21 and LangFr version 11. On clicking on ‘download’ on a previous occasion I got some strange reactions from Ad-Aware which finally stopped responding and eventually had to be closed down via Task Manager.
Since then for some time I resisted the temptation to accept these downloads when offered – but finally today I tried it again. This time it showed the download progress and then informed me that I now had the latest version of Ad-Aware – which then stopped responding and closed. After that any attempt to reopen Ad-Aware would only get as far as ‘setting up values’ – ‘Done’ and then the program stopped responding and would not open. I have uninstalled and re-installed Ad-Aware and updated the Definitions but am now again being offered these software updates which caused such trouble. I will certainly not accept them but would be glad to have some comment and advice.

Had the same problem yesterday. XP/SP2, AVG free, Ad-Aware 2007 free. In addition to the other problems, I also had a red popup in bottom right corner of my screen stating that I could register for free if I buy flowers for Valentines. Popup kept coming up till I uninstalled AdAware, reinstalled and updated only the definitions.
