I am thinking of downloading Ad Aware 2007 free. But am wondering why i need it when i already have Windows defender installed. They are both anti spyware programs aren't they? I thought that they both did the same thing?

No one anti-spyware program will pick up all the spyware that is out there. I have several anti-spyware programs which I use on a daily basis and they all pick up various tracking cookies. Only problem is that the other programs find the tracking cookies and remove them, but this program very seldom finds any cookies. This program is run first also. Oh well. Good luck to you if the program will work for you.

Many thanks. I think i will give ad aware a miss then as i have heard afew bad things about it. Can you recommend anything that's free? Regards James
Here's one thing, though...
The earlier version of AdAware was a simple, standalone program which caught many problems.
It worked without much ado.
2007 has been made very sophisticated.
Don't be surprised if find issues.
Many folks have problems just getting it to scan.

That being said, I concur with the previous comment that not one program is good to use.
I've found that several programs will find different issues & clean them up.
Don't know which's better.
I used to run three programs...
A virus protection program...(McAfee, Norton, AG)
AdAware Personal SE v.1.6 (can't get 2007 to work).
And SPY BOT SD.
Spy Bot will find many of your bot files.
But I also found a new program which you might find interesting:
AdvancedWindowsCareV2.
Oh...other than McAfee & Norton, all of these programs that I mentioned are FREE.
