I hadn't used my SE personal program for a long time and decided to update and run it. After trying to update the files it stops after 5 % completion of download. After several tries I figured I would uninstall and reinstall and then reboot but to no avail.
I am an XP user and can't get the darn thing to work. It always worked fine before? Is it something I have done or when I downloaded the SE free version again did they change something?
Please help!

I am also an XP user. I have Ad-Aware SE core application 1.06, free version. I receive the error message "error retrieving update, 5%", when I try to update the definition file. I have not uninstalled and reinstalled yet because everyone says is doesn't work. I hope someone will come up with a solution.

SE has expired definitively at 12.31.07.
Feel free to update to Ad-Aware 2007 free.
It's recommended to uninstall SE and delete all SE leavings before installing AAW2007.
If you need more advise, let me know.
