Spike: This is my first attempt at getting my message in the Forum. When I hit NewTopic it says I am not allowed.
At any rate, I have downloaded Ad-Aware 2007 Free and whenever it is doing its scan the programme crashes and I get the blue screen of death. Uninstalled and Installed many many times but the same thing happens (it is always in the Reg section when it stops.
Any clues?
EDIT: vidbert, I have split your post to your own new Topic.

Hi vidbert,
Firstly, could you answer these questions, to help identify any possible conflicts.
What is your OS (XP, Vista32 etc)?
Which Antivirus do you use?
What is your Firewall?
Do you have any other security applications installed/running (ie: anti-spyware, anti-malware)?
Are you able to complete a scan (Smart or Full) in Safe Mode?
Regards,
Spike

Sorry for the confusion, I found it hard to navigate the pages.
I am using Windows XP Home (SP2) on a Pent.4 with 2 gig memory (Asus motherboard)
AVG anitvirus and Pop-Up-Stopper
As for the Firewall, I suppose it is the XP
I did use Spy Bot, but it kept interfering with Ad-Aware, so I removed it.
On both the Smart and Full scan, it crashes when it is scanning the Registry at GUID (it went so fast it was hard to catch where it stopped.
Hope this is some help to you.

There would appear to be some conflict going on here.
Firstly, disconnect from the internet and then try scanning with both your AVG and Pop-Up-Stopper disabled.
If a scan (Smart or Full) will complete, then try again, this time with only one of them disabled, and then again with the other. That will tell us if either of them are the culprit.
Post back with how you get on.
Regards,
Spike

Well, I disconnected from the Internet and disabled AVG then Pop-Up-Stopper. I then disabled BOTH and it still crashes when the scan hits Registry GUID scanning!!!!

Sorry Spike, I did not notice the 'Safe Mode' remark.
I started up in Safe Mode and got the following message when I tried to load Ad-Aware 2007:
Application Error
Exception EAccessViolation in module Ad-Aware1007.exe at 001DD084,
Access violation at address 005DD084 in molule 'Ad-Aware20070.exe'.
read of address 00000414.
OK
Now what?

Update: In trying to resolve this mess I decided to Uninstall Ad-Aware and Install it (again!)
Could not find an Uninstall in the programme, so went to the Start > Programmes and noticed that Lavasoft Ad-Aware SE Personal shows {Empty} ??
I reloaded the downloaded prog. and chose Uninstall. After uninstalling, I went to the Registry and deleted all references to Lavasoft as well as Ad-Aware. Cleaned up the Registry with "RegCure".
Re-downloaded Ad-Aware 2007 and installed it. When it did its Smart Clean - it again stopped at the section of Registry (GUID scanning).
Very frustrating.

A suggestion that has worked for a few other users - please uninstall AAW 2007 v.7.0.2.6 and try downloading/installing the previous version (7.0.2.5) from
here.
If that works, then try updating firstly for new Defs and then again for the Software Updates.

Well Spike, the same thing happens.
Didn't the error in my earlier message give you a clue as to what happened?

Sorry, I'm not trained to read the exact meaning of these MS errors. I'll see if another (more expert) volunteer can assist.

No Columbus - There has been no solution given to me. I became so frustrated I delete Ad-Aware COMPLETELY and will not put it back on until someone solves this puzzle.

Hello All,
First question, have you uninstalled v.7.0.25 and updated to v.7.0.2.6 (released today)? Alternatively, click on "Update" and accept the new 0050 Defs and then click on "Update" again to get the software updates.

uninstalled the pervious version and installed the new version. Same exception error.

Access violation at address 005DD084 in molule 'Ad-Aware20070.exe'.

Really sad ... AdAware has been the standard since '98 and I'm even a (former) paying customer. Looks like I won't be using adaware untill they can werk out the problems

Hi ColumbusIS,
When you say that you get the same error message, is that in Safe Mode or in normal operation?
Would you also please post the following:
What is your OS (XP, Vista32 etc)?
Which Antivirus do you use?
What is your Firewall?
Do you have any other security applications installed/running (ie: anti-spyware, anti-malware)?
@ vidbert
I have contacted someone with far more Windows expertise than me - a very busy person but hopefully we can get some assistance for both of your problems.

Hi
Could you post back with the Data Execution Prevention (DEP) settings you are running please.
If you follow the instructions under Enabling DEP for all Programs on Your Computer at this Microsoft web site:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/...p/depcnfxp.mspxAt the DataExecutionPrevention tab what option do you have checked? Don't change the setting just post back with how it is configured at the moment.
Many thanks

Ad-Astra:
Followed your instructions and when I arrived at the Performance Options, it was already set at -Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select.
However, the following items were in the box beneath the 'turn on'
(.) DVDFab - The ultimate DVD copying/converting.......
(.) DVDFab Platinum.exe
( ) Widows Explorer
Does any of this help?

Hi vidbert
Could you try adding Ad-Aware into the DEP Exception List, this will check if there are DEP-compatiblity issues, the warning message is not always displayed.
Have a look at this part of the web page:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/...nfxp.mspx#EGCACAt point 7 click add and then at point 8 follow the instructions to locate and add the following file
c:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware 2007\aawservice.exeDo not reboot yet, repeat points 7-10 and this time select
c:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware 2007\Ad-Aware2007.exeWhen both programs appear in the box beneath then reboot the PC and see if Ad-Aware will scan OK now.

NOPE! The same thing happens when the scan reaches Registry - GUID. IT CRASHES.
Now what?
