After finding out the updates were no longer available for Ad-aware se I tried uninstalling it and had all sorts of trouble. Let me start off by saying I am pretty much computer illiterate so go easy on me. I was unable to unistall by clicking uninstall beacuse it said it couldn't find the install.log. At this point I tried uninstalling as suggested in the frequently asked questions and this is where it all goes bad.
Not only do I not have my old version, but I cannot install the new version. It goes through the dowload process and starts installing. It then stops and says there is a problem with the windows installer package. I went back to the FAQ and folled the link to update the installers at the microsoft site. I installed the update and restarted the computer, but still get the same message when I try to install Ad-Aware. I was reading posts on here and even tried reinstalling the old version. When I did that it says I already have it and would I like to continue. I say yes go through the whole procedure again and the same thing happens except this time it says error 1721 there is a problem with the windows installer.

What am I doing wrong ? Why was it still showing the old version when I can't find any files pertaining to it ?? As I said I am computer illiterate so please keep that in mind if you are willing to help me. Thank you in advance. Next stop will be the GEEK SQUAD if you guys and gals can't help me.

This problem relates to the MSI installer from Microsoft; it is associated with either an outdated or corrupt Windows Installer or with permission for Windows Script Hosting (WSH).

First of all, download the latest version of Ad-Aware from the Support Center or https://secure.lavasoft.com/products/ad_aware_free.php and reinstall. You may also update the software from the 'Web Update' menu in Ad-Aware 2007. Click the 'Update' button to connect to the update server and download the updates. Restart Ad-Aware and Ad-Watch to activate the changes.

Warning: Do not try to edit registry keys if you are unfamiliar with the Windows Registry. Attempt this only at your own risk; Lavasoft does not take responsibility.
  • In the Windows Start menu, open run and type 'regedit' in the command line. Click 'Ok'.
  • Check for either or both of the following registry keys:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Script Host\Settings\Enabled
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows Script Host\Settings\Enabled

If either of those has a DWORD value of '0', then scripting is disabled. Changing the values to '1' should enable scripting.

Hi. I have the same problem. First of all, the Microsoft links above do not work. Second, I just updated both these Windows components to their latest versions (3.1 and 5.7). Third, I have no such registry entries, which is the way it's supposed to be.

Fourth, and most interestingly, by the time Error 1722 actually occurs, Ad-Aware is actually fully installed, and if you ignore and don't kill the installation process, you can run Ad-Aware normally. Unfortunately, even manually killing it with the task manager makes it revert the installation. I have not found a way to trick it to die without doing this. I did verify that the installation is fully functional, however.

I would also like to add that the only reason I'm even bothering to install Ad-Aware 2007 is because Ad-Aware SE no longer updates, as of a few days ago. I would greatly prefer that it did, since it's a much simpler and more straightforward program, which isn't riddled with pointless eye candy and bloat. This will probably be the last Lavasoft product I ever use, unless they completely reverse the design philosophy they have developed with their most recent version of Ad-Aware.
