I am using v1.06r1, I cannot update to ad-aware 2007 because my OS is windows 98SE.
Without updates how long will it last before my old ad aware isn't reliable and what can you suggest as an alternative (updating my OS is no alternative, my computer is from 1999).

Hi randrew06110,

Are you still using AAW SE Personal v1.06r1?

If so, official Lavasoft support for Ad-Aware SE Personal v1.06 ended on 31st December 2007. That is why you are not able to update your SE Definitions as you were used to.

Lavasoft's new product, Ad-Aware 2007, has a Free version which is available from here or here.

The product specifications (including which OS are supported) are here: Tech Specs

if you want updates for your se version, go to the site listed below. you will see the downloads on the right side of page. click on
the se download. once downloaded insert into your lavasoft directory & it will replace the old definition.

I'm sure Ike means Extract the Contents of the defs.zip file to the Lavasoft/Adaware folder.. remembering to first change the original defs.ref file to defs.oldref or such, in case of error and you need to revert.

A bit more info on how to get the latest defs file into your AAW SE folder which I put on another thread:
QUOTE
This is how I installed the latest defs file:
On another forum it said 'Unzip the file which you have downloaded (defs.zip) to extract defs.ref and copy defs.ref to the directory where you have Ad-Aware SE installed, overwriting the existing defs.ref.'
Go to C:\Program Files and open the Lavasoft folder and copy the new file there, you will be asked if you want to replace the existing file, so click 'Yes' and that's it. When you open Ad-Aware SE it should now show 'Definitions file SE1R216 28.01.2008 Loaded'.
If you, or anyone else, use WinZip, you can right click on the downloaded zip file and drag it into the Lavasoft folder, the left click on 'Extract to here'. It'll then be the same as I said before. I've just done this myself, so I know it works! I hope this is useful to you.

I don't know how much use this will be to you as a 98SE user, but perhaps you can adapt it! The trouble is that Lavasoft won't make these updates for AAW SE available indefinitely, but there are other programs that currently support 98SE.
