I spent several hours today getting Ad-Aware 2007 installed and updated. The update appeard to freeze up every time I tried to run it. In my case Ad-Aware wanted to update both the definitions and the program. Trying to do the actions seperately did not seem to help, then I noted the following:

First, when you select to update the definitions from the STATUS screen there is no indication that anything is happening. The progress bar can only be seen on the WEB UPDATE screen. Once I realized this I ran the definition update by itself and could see it was actually running.

Second, the program update does appear to freeze, to the point that there are even two Application listings in Windows Task Manager saying it is NOT RESPONDING, and the programs display is not updating. I finally noticed that even though it appeared to be frozen there was a constant data transfer over my connection. So, I left it alone for several minutes and sure enough when I checked later it had completed successfully.

Bottom line, if you think your update is failing, give it some time. If you are using dialup you may want to give it a lot of time, because updating both the program and definitions is serveral mbs of data.
