I used Adaware SE upuntil this week when I found that it would no longer update as Lavasoft had abandoned support. I have therefore downloaded the 2007 version and have been considering upgrading from the free to paid up 2007 Plus version, being sick to death of cookies being lodged on my machine. However !

Yesterday out of interest I ran 2007 [ updated ] and removed several tracking cookies and 2 MRU lists, then ran the SE version [ not updated as it wouldn't ] and it unearthed 50 tracking cookies and 25 MRU lists ! I left these and returned to running 2007 again which showed 0 !! returning once again to SE it again showed 50 and 15 . I upped the TAI on 2007 from 3 to 0 and it still found 0 !

I have been very pleased with SE but I am not going to purchase the 2007 Plus version if this is typical of its performance but there's a Catch 22 as without paying I cannot put a pre-sales question to Lavasoft to help me make up my mind !!

This relative performance seems very odd as you would have thought that the ' hunting software ' was identical if not improved in the 2007 version compared with SE. Has anyone else had this experience and/or are there any adjustments I can make which will correct the 2007 version so that it will find everything that SE does ?

I suppose the other possibility is that the free version has been somewhat degraded by Lavasoft and full hunting performance only comes with the Plus version - has anyone upgraded and found that happening please ?

Thanks I had missed your topic line but have now read it all. Seems I am in the same boat as yourself. Lavasoft are clearly not on top of something when their own SE version is superior to the 2007 version every time - given the variability you and others report there must be a programming error somewhere. A larger slower programme to find less !

Trouble is I guess that, unless you have run a comparison between products you could blisfully use the 2007 version and never know what it wasn't finding, so their sales will continue for a while until the word spreads.


I find it irritating that there is no facility to ask questions about the product before buying or that the forum exchange you pointed me to can go on so long without a serious response from Lavasoft.

It's a crying shame; comparisons between SE and other products, which I ran in late Dec 07 [ leading towards buying the Plus version ] showed it to be the best product I could find on the market but the results on 2007 show it not to be in the same league for whatever reason. Regretably therefore I am turning elsewhere and will check back for progress at Lavasoft in 6 months time if they are still in business!
