I now entered unable to get updated definitions and there are huge amounts of posts for this.I see that on the exact date of my last update Dec 27-07 ad-aware no longer has automatic updates. Understood.I also see you can manually do this & I went to look before I came here for manually finding updates. I did not "know" any of this was going on. How would I? I'm sorry I don't know what's going on? I guess there is no more updates and maybe ? They will be there manually (which I can't do !). Tried to read help how and I don't get it. I also am very ill and just can't comprehend as deeply as I should be. I also can barely read or write well. There's no one to help me but here on this forum I am hoping.... Why is it gone? Are we suppose to change to a paid version? Is that why this has ended? Can someone explain why this is going on and what do I do? I hate to ask. I think it's free forever - but it's a free version without Ad-Watch.
If Ad-Aware 2007 - then Ad-Aware 2007 Pro. Ad-Watch is the importend part from Ad-Aware for security. In future - so I read the instruction of the new programs - is the def-file a time-update of 1, 2 or 3 years (security and pay) - sorry, I think a step back against all users.
Importend for working well - first deinstallation the old version (Ad-Aware SE) before install the new version (Ad-Aware 2007) - deinstallation with windows-deinstallations-routine.

For the rest, since yesterday is the function of Ad-Aware SE Professional Program with the new def-file ok. And I use it in the next time too - I hope for a long time.

It is very very complicated

From what i can understand lavasoft want us to uninstall Ad-aware SE and install Ad-aware 2007....they are both free as far as i know but some people find Ad-aware easier to use than Ad-aware 2007 and are disappointed Ad-aware SE is expiring

You can download updates manually...i am sure if you do a search you will find out how to do it....

Thank You guys for posting back to me. Some helps. I still have too many questions and they are posted everywhere. The entire forum is up in arms/confused /upset over this.

I did see the free 2007 version and 3 screen shots.I guess unless I try it I don't know if I would like it. It sounds like everyone is having trouble and not only getting use to it. I read the spec and what it comes with but It's really not saying enough at all for me. the description is in my opinion to vague.

I know I need to uninstall but I cannot follow Ad--Aware's complicated instructions for uninstalling.I've always not liked the instructions for anything .It's so involved.Write this,enter this. Why not just the add/remove.I don't know if it's there?they mention also from the programs list. That would be the simple way. I know it would not remove the registry information.

1) What happens to all the logs ?
2) What do you do with everything you have removed that was infected or anything Ive removed? What happens to those? I would like answers for these. I'll go reading for as long as I can...


JANeu,The pro version is paid but only one PC for any paid versions that I can see. I have 3/4 PC's. Always 3 but It should be 4th too. In FAQ'S it says one PC. I also don't believe the Free version ever had AD Watch. Mine does not now and I don't remember it ever being there before. Not the free version. Sure the Pro is more security. But it looks like if you want to Pay for the Full version of 2007,you get more. I don't think Pro is for me?

I think you said it all. So the decision is uninstalling my way (just from hitting uninstall because I cannot follow their detailed way-which is better because it removes more from the older version)
I don't know about the manual updates?
People are posting that those are there for now but wont be forever. How long is a question people are asking over and over again.
I know you can't help me manually install the updates. I wrote I really cannot research to get the manual updates . I tried .My brain can't do it.i have been a researcher for all of my life and that's now a problem.I'm not stupid.I'm more than a beginner but not advanced at all. 2 years ago I went to try one and thank god a system restore fixed my computer. I've never seen such complicated instructions. Saving here.opening there,entering a number/characters. I would just like to download & run or save to desktop and run. I don't know why it's so complicated.

I still don't know why this decision was made.

My concern about changing is that there will be "less": choices,a bunch of pre sets not allowing me to update when I want to every time I run it and too many downloaded 2007 Free .They are all posting serious problems on top of biggest complaint of not being able to get use to it. OK,I guess my question of WHY is they felt like it! Why ruin a good thing I don't understand unless wanting people to pay only, which I would consider if there was a option for 3 or more computers like all other software I see.

I never used it because it was a free program. It worked ! I don't have money to pay for 3 main PC's .

Hi weelee2,

Updating from Ad-Aware SE 1.06 to Ad-Aware 2007 is relatively straight-forward.

First, uninstall AAW SE then download AAW 2007 v7.0.2.6 from here or here and install.

Once installed, go to the "Settings" tab at the lower-left and use my recommended settings as per the screen shots in this Topic: http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/index.php?s...c=15414&hl=

Scans with AAW 2007 are likely to take a little longer in AAW SE, simply because it is more thorough.

Ad-Aware SE was an update of older technology, whereas AAW 2007 has been built from scratch to meet the demands of the currently-evolving modern malware. We all were used to AAW SE so it may take a little time to get used to AAW 2007 - that said, it is a much more appropriate product to fight current and future malware.

Due to so many issues with the new version , I went to try and download definitions for 1.6r version and nothing that was suppose to be clickable would let me click on it from lavasofts site. I stayed there found another option to manually download and it was a zip folder.I knew then a mistake but I unzipped trying to follow the instructions that I didn't understand.basically close Ad-Adawre window ,then re open and Definitions should be updated manully. NO,nothing was updated.Still 12/27.

I was stupid doing something I know I better not ever do but I lost my OE mail,have errors eevrywhere,can't stay connected,etc... I posted 50% use of computer.

1) I went and deleted the zip file and all it's 3/4 sub folders and contents-about 100+ things just. Stupid move! They ONLY showed downloaded at that time on thast date so i thought I can't be screwing up that bad. All,every single one said the time and date within 1o minutes. So I deleted these. The entire PC got worse.I chose to leave all in recyscle bin of course .I assumed system restore would out back to the 2 days earlier.

Everything from that zip file I extracted into into recycyle bin stayed !! It stayed. WHY did it stay in recycle bin?? Now,there was one group I deleted and it was from inside one of these folders. One was named IE5 folder. I never go near that. I did and deleted only that 10 minutes and date. I only saw that there.

One folder deleted but left PC .It didn't go to the recycle bin....!!!!

Question And I need help ,PLEASE??? After sytem restore .

2) Question: What do I do now? I am desperate. What do I do with the files (whatever they are called) in recycle bin and what do I do with the files that disappeared? Does anyone know what these files are that disappeasred and what did I do?

The manual downloads for updating old version were not clickable except this one zip file I found. That's why I cannot ever manually update ever and never had to. It does not work. Just this zip folder option is all Ive seen for years reading the site. NOT needing to. Never could use it if I did have to.

Calm down weelee!!

You can still download Ad-Aware SE version 1.06r1 from softpedia to re-install it.

To update your definitions file simply:-

1) Download the file to your desktop (or any other location you wish on your hard disk).
2) Double click the file (which will be named defs.zip). You'll probably have Winzip or the like installed on your machine and if so this will run.
3) Extract the file to Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware SE Personal\
4) Prior to 3, you might want to rename your old definitions file defs.ref.old so that it's not overwritten and you can revert to it.

You must have mis understood my problems/questions.
First of all I still have the old version and it runs - outdated but runs. It's still there. I only attempted to manually install a zip file. Now no one will help ,yet !

I went to download some zip fie, unzipped it and it ruined my computer by 50% & because of many errors and things but i can now only stay connected maybe 50 % of the time.That;s why I say 50 percent right off the bat among many other groups of things that were not there.

Right now I need to know what to do with all the files that downloaded when I unzipped the zip file that I "DELETED" . Most I tried counting about 75+ are in the recycle bin and a group of 25 just went right off the PC.
What do I do with these files?? I can't back the ones I deleted that I assumed being an idiot because I never play around that since they had the same 10 minutes and exact date that they were safe to delete.
I know i can put back the ones in the recycle folder (What for though) but what about the ones gone off the computer??? Obviously this has caused my computer to have problems. This is not an uninstall I tried ,YET. It was trying to install definitions for the old version because I didn't want to upgrade.At least not from all I see here and other groups . This is the only place Ive posted ever.

It is hard to respond when someone has posts asking similar or related questions in a number of different Topics. Again, my apologies.

Now to your questions:

Official Lavasoft support for Ad-Aware SE 1.06 ended on 31st December 2007. That is why you are not able to update your SE Definitions as you were used to - there is a way of manually up-dating them, however you have said that this would be too difficult for you in your current circumstances. If you would like me to post instructions on how to do this, please advise by return post.

AAW SE has been replaced by Ad-Aware 2007 (yes, there is still a Free version available from here or here). It is not necessary to purchase a licensed version of Ad-Aware 2007.

There are two ways of uninstalling Ad-Aware SE (yes, it should be uninstalled first):

1) Go to "Start > Programs > Lavasoft > Ad-Aware > Uninstall Ad-Aware"

If that does not work for you:

2) Go to "Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs" and select Ad-Aware SE.

Now to questions from your posts.

Logs from Ad-Aware SE will be deleted when that particular build is uninstalled.

Any deleted files (from whichever version of Ad-Aware) are removed from your computer unless you have chosen to put them in Quarantine. (NOTE: In AAW 2007, only "critical objects" such as malware can be quarantined. Privacy objects, such as Tracking Cookies or MRUs can only be deleted).

Should you wish to install Ad-Aware 2007 and are uncertain about particular settings, again please post back and I will post detailed screenshots and instructions.

I deleted/uninstalled Ad-Aware completely no problems except ONE question still stuck with.

I did uninstall through entering a certain exe file in run and it delted everything ! looks clean and good.I'm sure in registry still.

I need to know what to do with the files in the recycle bin from before uninstall when I tried to manually dowload the definitions and opened a zip file and then being an idiot went around delitning all I could find related to that zip file because it DID NOT work and my computer had errors all over it ,no OE plus more. Like losing connection 50 percent .

I think CC cleaner is a great utility but don't understand what's safe to remove.

1st thing always and done was a system restore that left every one of these files in the recycle bin surprising me going back 2 days. I never saw that before!

1) CAN I DELETE THESE? I am not putting them back because there's NO reason to and also I now deleted the old version of Ad Aware. Sad.I would run spybot and Ad Aware. ONLY Ad Aware caught any critical issues. ONLY Ad-Aware ! NOW I don't know and am afraid of downloading new 2007 version. I have nothing good enough right now. AVG and SPYBOT not good enough security. Never found the critical things Ad Aware did.

A system Restore I wrote saying I did and explained the same question I have now.

Ive not gotten help for one question and please read that it was NOT done during an uninstall.
I did it after trying to manually dowload a zip file or something and extracted it,then i went crazy deleting all over because it did not do anything but disable my computer too much.
You say delete anything after an uninstall.This is not that.
I also did a system restore and all thse files stayed there in the recycle bin.I went back 2 days.

Plus if you read a bunch over 25 just deleted off the computer. It does NOT work ok or correctly yet.
Can I get help for ONE question.

CCleaner german lang. / engl. lang. > the checkmarks are indentic > you only have to copy them.
After you run CCleaner the recycle bin is EMPTY !!
In case of doubt > open recycle bin > copy and paste the data in your next reply.

One folder deleted but left PC .It didn't go to the recycle bin....!!!!

Question And I need help ,PLEASE??? After sytem restore .

2) Question: What do I do now? I am desperate. What do I do with the files (whatever they are called) in recycle bin and what do I do with the files that disappeared? Does anyone know what these files are that disappeasred and what did I do?

The manual downloads for updating old version were not clickable except this one zip file I found. That's why I cannot ever manually update ever and never had to. It does not work. Just this zip folder option is all Ive seen for years reading the site. NOT needing to. Never could use it if I did have to.

I need help ? Someone please direct me on what to do now??? I still have the name of the folders but empty. I also saw the folders somewhere else and also empty. Like in the picture viewer window.I saw 4/5 folders and all for this download /Ad-Aware and I left them.I have no clue but I was not touching more.

I am not sure if this will help or not, but after reading all of this I see that you did do a system restore?? I learned a lesson long ago that once you "empty" your recycling bin you can not retrieve them (very easily anyway). I'm not to sure on what folders are in your recycling bin but click on "Restore Items" and they should automatically restore to where they were in the first place. I am not happy with this new "Adaware 2007 Free Version" what so ever & wished I would've kept the older "SE" version. I cannot update it what so ever & it seems like everyone is having this problem. So sorry for your problem & hope it will be resolved.

You mis understood my post. You were wrong since I posted I did a system restore and all was still there. You did not answer or respond to the correct issue, otherwise you would see a system restore was done & left everything there (Not returned to a previous state before I manually tried to download definitions-never have seen that before) but I did do something stupid " admittedly" and had no clue until 30 minutes ago what to do/try? You told me to do a system restore . I said I did already of course !!! Then I said I did something stupid I normally if not ill would never have done. I also had no idea CCleaner was in anything but what ever you posted. German I think?

Oh dear, First - let's calm down everybody and try to get this resolved. I think maybe I just added to the confusion by reopening this thread, however, I thought it seemed necessary as I saw two topics were closed and maybe i picked the wrong one to reopen. How about if I just merge the other topic into this one and we'll see what we end up with and perhaps we can find a resolution for your problem.

I don't think it's necessary to run CCleaner at this point.

If it's ok with everyone, I'll try merging these topics together so we can get one big picture and try to find what the current status is on the original problem?

Usually a system restore brings back the previous state and in this case I had to leave what I deleted being stupid there just in case I needed to put it back for my PC to work.
Still a system restore I would have expected to go back the 2 days I chose to go back to.
You can manually just stick them back but there was no need for these since it was a failed attempt and they would sit there for no reason.
It was a question I did not know what to do with and one question I hoped anyone would answer. With it being so hard to write even a sentence(Physically related) for me I was going crazy.
Too hard and a scary thing for me.
So I guess I'm extra sensitive right now but woud not be rude to someone directly.I hope not !
As of right now it's gone from recycle bin.I had no choice anymore.

It seems I'm OK on this computer but no program like Ad Aware.
Spybot does not catch things at all.
I looked at 2 names suggested here and they are even larger downloads than the new 19+ MB download for new 2007 version .That's large and the other 2 mentioned were 22MB and close to it. I don't even know if they are good.Never heard of them.
I rambled and so hard to write too.

You are correct It's almost impossible to get back anything deleted from the recycle bin.I can't and maybe a professional can.I know some PC Whiz's can do anything. That's why I had to ask....

I really did try to be calm and suggest he drop it and resolve his issue with me.
It's not something that ever should be done on a place for help with people of all kinds.
I did run CCleaner.
I deleted every single thing it showed.
I read all information ,backed up (I think most-not all) ,still have no clue if what Ive done is right.It's been barely 40 minutes since I did it, then I got/heard messages from here.

At this point off this PC only. It seems my uninstall went OK. I don't know yet & I have no idea if I'm OK after deleting about 500 things from CCLEANER (Read everything first) I asked nothing about uninstall help or CCLEANER. Found it in English. How would I know? Heard of it,never saw it before. I did that by choice on my own. Never intended to. Had no updated definitions but ran and even caught critical issues.

My fear now is being treated like I was. So I don't know or dare attempt the download of the 2007 version without knowing I can get help....
I still need to uninstall from 2 other PC's but medically unable to get to them for months.
My concern is the one I have in bed where I live.


This is done now.Unless I by chance need the screen shots posted by SPIKE. They should be kept available.

Ok, I think that the use of an emoticon (sometimes called "smileys") is what has everyone confused. The emoticon's name is "wacko" - not you. If you are reading this in plain text you will see only the name of the emoticon instead of the smiley face he intended. The emoticons are little smiley faces that appear on the menu to the left in the answer box. They are not meant to be interpreted as words.

So no - he is not calling you wacko, it simply a misconception because he did not post those words. I hope that is clear for you.

I've removed that so there is no confusion. These people are really trying to help you.

And yes, CCleaner does not need an internet connection to run it. That is correct.

Emoticons are used to express words that you feel. I'm not a beginner,not advanced but ill so having serious issues comprehending,writing,etc... That things are like a beginner to me right now. Emoticons,no. Don't worry about it...!!

Ok, you see when you are quoting someone the smiley doesn't show and it's "name" appears in plain text.

When you are posting and just hit smiley face - it's not obvious what the plain text name of it is. That's why it appeared odd to you. I assure you he was not calling you a wacko - that is just the "plain text name" of the smiley and he may not have been aware of how that would appear in plain text.

So do you need help to restore the things fixed using CCleaner? If so, I think someone will be along with instructions on how to do that.

Here is the correct reply button to use so that you don't see the previous poster's reply displayed in plain text (that's how this confusion got going). When you want to post a reply use the Add Reply button (Not the [b]"reply['b] as shown below.
