Full Version: Can't uninstall Ad-Aware SE Personal, even using past forum suggestions

Hi. I've been a user of AA SE Personal for some time and have never had to look at these Forums for assistance before now. Upon trying to do a definitions update and encountering the "730845 days out of date message," I started checking and then learned that SE Personal is no longer the current free application. I see that the "730845..." issue has been addressed, but in the meanwhile I decided to uninstall AA SE Personal. Unfortunately, I can't do the uninstall successfully.

I found the April 6, 2006 forum discussion on this topic, but none of the suggestions there work: (1) when I click "uninstall Ad-Aware" in the Lavasoft folder of my start menu, it says it can't find "unwise.exe"; (2) AA SE is not listed in the Add/Remove program list; (3) "unwise.exe" indeed does not appear in the Lavasoft\ad-aware\ folder in the program files so I can't run it; and (4) when I try to do a manual uninstall starting by running the file unregaaw.exe (which does appear in the Lavasoft Ad-Aware folder in the program files), absolutely nothing happens.

If anyone has any advice, I would really appreciate it. As a matter of background, I am just "technical enough" to be dangerous to myself.

Thanks.

if you want to uninstall ad-aware se, just delete all the lavasoft files and remove any lavasoft regkeys that you can find to remove..

Hi DFIWatcher,

This is how I unistalled it from my laptop--> Control Panel--> Add or Remove programs--> Open the list--> Look for Adaware--> Remove

Hope this helps

Thanks onemore and redwolfe,

Since the FAQ steps did not help, please download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility (WICU) from here

Install and run the WICU (should be listed on your "Start > Programs" list) - it should detect your installation of AAW SE. Highlight AAW SE 1.06 and click remove.

Then double-check to make sure that the AAW SE folders have been removed from C:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware\ etc - any that remain may be manually deleted.

Good day everyone.

redwolfe_98 and onemore, thanks very much for the suggestions. I'm not sure I really know how to find and safely delete registry keys manually, and the add/remove didn't work for me.

spike-nz, thanks very much for the suggestion to use the Windows Installer Cleanup utility; I will try that approach.

I appreciate the help; hopefully I'll get it right this time.

Hi DFIWatcher,

Please post back with how you get on.

Spike, sorry for the delay in replying; I had to go out of town for a day and just now got back to this.

I followed your instructions and had no trouble downloading, installing and running the WICU. Unfortunately, AAW SE does not show up in the list of installed programs (I've gone through the list 3 times). But AAW SE is there - I can run it. Obviously I've done something wrong somewhere along the way, but I have no idea what or when. Unless you have another idea, I may just forget about uninstalling AAW SE. I wasn't planning to use it any longer and as far as I can see, just leaving whatever is there hasn't done any harm.

If you have more thoughts, I'd be eager to hear them. But even if not, I appreciate the help very much.

Hi!

Try this instead:

1. Click on the weblink below to go to the site (don't copy and paste, because it looks a bit strange online here for some reason):

http://www.eusing.com/free_registry_cleane...try_cleaner.htm

2. Download: Eusing Free Registry Cleaner.
It's a free registry repair software that allows you to safely clean and repair registry problems with a few simple mouse clicks.

3. Install the program.

4. Manually delete the Lavasoft folder C:\Program\Lavasoft or where you can find it.

5. Run the program Eusing Free Registry Cleaner.

6. Select the sections to scan, for example: Files and folders, Software Locations and Obsolete Software.

7. Select Scan registry issue and wait until it is finished.

8. When the result is shown, select everything that has to do with Lavasoft, Ad-Aware, Ad-Watch et cetera.

9. Select Repair Registry Issue and the registry will be cleaned from what you have selected without a lot of fuzz.

Voila!

Cheers!

John, thanks for the suggestion and the detailed instructions, which makes this sound straightforward enough. Having said that, my technical knowledge is just sufficient to make me apprehensive about tinkering with the registry, even using a recommended utility. I've read and/or heard too many horror stories about registry change errors/registry changes not working and trashing computers, I guess.

Anyway, I do plan to try the steps you have outlined after I have educated myself about backing up and restoring the registry. Then I'll get back to you and let you know how I do.

Again, many thanks and have a good day.
