Hello,

I was wondering if anyone can provide some additional information on a message that you receive after (manually) downloading and installing the most recent SE1R213 definitions. As mentioned in this forum before it's now necessary to do manual updates for anyone that still uses AAW-SE. I successfully did that with the SE1R212 (07.01.2008) updates with no issues and no messages.

However, after installing the definistions for 14.01.2008 (SE1R213) Ad-Aware displays the following message every time it starts and checks the installed definitions : Definitions are 730485 days old do you want to check for updates . I should note you can choose cancel and the CORERECT definition file/date does appear and load correctly. After running a scan the software also appears to be operating correctly.

My question is why does this Outdated Definitions message appear, even though the definitions are current and correct? To say the least it's very confusing & annoying for someone that may not be familiar with the product or how it works. I tested this on 3 other AAW-SE installs and the same message appears on each system so I know it's not a configuration issue specific to one computer.

Thank you for any information.

I had the exact same thing happen to me. I feel like this may be one way that Lavasoft is trying to FORCE "2007" down our throats. I simply deleted the file and since I saved the zipfile from 1-7-08 I reinstalled that for now. There are way too many other solutions out there to put up with this type of treatment from a company. wink.gif

Since I have to do a "workover" of the computer that I'm on right now, anyway, I will NOT be re-installing Ad-Aware at all. I will be installing SUPERAntispyware as its replacement....That is until I complete my Migration to the Penguin (PCLinuxOS). cool.gif

I reckon it's just a problem with the internal timestamp of the latest definitions file.

Knowing how dumb many software engineers and programmers are, it could well be a genuine error. There again, it could just as likely be an attempt to create some anxiety!

I wouldn't trash the file, as it appears to be working fine and an incremental update to SE1R212.

730485 Days? That means the definition file is 2001 years old! Lavasoft come on!

This only seems to happen if you've got the 'Prompt to update outdated definitions' enabled in Settings>General'. If you disable this, you just get a warning on the main page that 'You difinitions file may be outdated!'. Just ignore it; if you click on 'details', it shows that SE1R213 14.01.08 is loaded as it does on the main page.

Hey everyone thanks for the replies and comments thus far. It's good to see others are experiencing the same problem and I have not lost my mind. As some have mentioned the definitions appear to be correct and valid, also there are ways to disable the "warning message". It should also be noted that the scan appears to work properly after loading SE1R213. It's also great that Lavasoft is making the definitions available for manual download for those who want to keep using SE.

I appreciate the fact that we still have SE available which is a much simpler version and more compact that 2007. However, I do find it interesting that these prloblems/errors started occuring very shortly after Lavasoft discontinued support for AAW-SE.
