AD-AWARE 2007 ver. 7.0.2.6
IE vers. 6
Pent 4
1gb ram

Hi,
Hopefully someone out there can help with what has become such an irritating problem that i'm thinking of giving up using Ad-Adware completely:

Even after changing the history settings ( red 'x-ing' all under 'Cleaning Engine' )and clicking 'save', on every new AAW scan, the URLs in my web browser's drop down address bar window get deleted.

I've tried deleting the 'settings.aaw' file in my AAW application data before saving my desired 'cleaning engine' settings (off). Then I'll run a new scan and at first, the new saved settings seem to hold....however, on a later test scan , lo and behold; the drop-down addresses are again, mad.gif gone.

Is there something i'm overlooking?
Thanks for any help with this.

A quick question - have you tried deleting the settings.aaw file from C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware 2007\ (without AAW 2007 being loaded at the time, of course), then rebooting your system, re-opening AAW 2007 and re-saving your new settings (with Tracksweep options all turned off)?

The process that you have already used (deleting settings.aaw) is the one that has worked for those that I have helped before, so I'm scratching around a bit for a workaround for you...

Spike

NB: If my suggestion above does not work for you, would you please advise :
  • Your OS (Win2K, XP, Vista-32 etc)
  • Your antivirus and firewall
  • Any other security software that you have installed
Sometimes a particular configuration will cause a problem which isn't apparent to the majority of users

Thanks Spike for your reply. And for your kind attention.
Sorry...forgot to add OS which is XP sp2
McAfee anti-virus (no ant-spyware included)
Windows firewall
No other anti-spy/malware programs running or running in bkround.

The problem I described is becoming very inconsistant - so many variables.
Maybe I'm missing steps or not doing them in the correct order...

1 - I open Ad-Aware 2007 (free).
2 - I check to see that under 'cleaning engine' that all are crossed out in red.
3 - I go into Lavasoft app. folder and delete 'settings.aaw'
4 - I reboot the computer
5 - I re-open AAW and if prompted to 'save settings' will do so (maybe I should be rebooting computer at this point?)
6 - I do a test scan (quick)
7 - I delete all that's found.
8 - I close AAW and open IE6 and see if my browser's drop down retains the addresses.

Yesterday, after rebooting and rescanning 3x, I was overjoyed to see that my browser addresses were not being deleted and that the settings had stuck.

However later that day ( without changing any settings ) I re-scanned just to see if the settings were still being saved. Afterwards, to my horror....the drop down addresses were again, gone.

I tried the process again today and the settings wouldn't save.
I'm wondering what combination of things could be contributing to this.

Thanks.

A bit too "hit-and-miss" for my liking.

Each time that you scan, before-hand go into "Tools & Plug-Ins > TrackSweep" and make sure that everything is de-selected (the red crosses).

After a few re-boots and with this process (yes, sorry, rather cumbersome), please advise whether your typed URLs are being affected.
