Unfortunately, many of these features are undesired / underused and result in a severe drain on system resources.
To disable some of these features that YOU consider unessacary and regain some of the original performance of your machine, there are a few things you can try:-
To enable/disable startup programs, there is a small application called "msconfig", which is distributed with Windows 95, 98 and XP. It was not distributed with windows 2000, but the program can be manually copied from XP and used with Windows 2000. This "System Configuration Utility" will allow you to modify various windows settings.

Before using this tool, you should make sure you know exactly what you are doing. We recommend reading the links provided below before attempting any modifications to your system configuration. If unsure, post a question before acting.
Here is a link to a site that will show you detailed information about various start-up programs and executables.
Startup Programs and Executables Listing
In the Ad-aware Logfile......
When you see your Running Processes in your Logfile, these entries are all of the things that are running at startup, not just the ones that are listed in msconfig. Some of these will not be listed at the Startup Programs and Executables site above, as it is focused strictly on the items in msconfig.
The entries that are not listed in msconfig are not as easy to disable, but if you would like to know what they are\do you can find information on a lot of them at the following site:
http://www.answersthatwork.com/Tasklist_pa...es/tasklist.htm
The ones that you still can't find can sometimes be found by doing a Google search for them:
http://www.google.com
Then copy\paste the entry in the box and click "Google Search". You will then have to sort through the listings to find a site that let's you know what it is for.
Windows 2000\95 users.....
Win2K\95 doesn't have msconfig, that is why you got the error if you try to run msconfig from Start > Run > msconfig like we sometimes advise in removal suggestions.
You can get the msconfig tool from this site:
