Full Version: Why I preffered ADWARE SE.

As an It professional who time to time does malware removals.. I had come to rely on several programs in assisting me in cleaning and repairing client's machines. Adware was one tool that was used. I do not like the new 2007.. because it only works in normal mode. As any good technician knows the best way to clean out a machine of viruses and spyware is to start by booting in safemode and logging in under administration. till Adware 2007 adds safemode compatibility I will no longer recommend it to my clients.

SE is going to be terminated today (December 31). The way I see it, the program is dead either way; we won't be able to use it any longer, or it won't be able to receive updates. But 2007 has proven to me to be extraordinarily glitchy; I've quite regretful for uninstalling SE Personal. Frankly, I'm disappointed with Lavasoft. I expected much better with the newer version.

I'm a bit surprised at your comment:

I have ZERO problems running AAW2007 in Safe Mode (yes, I have just double-checked both my Admin a/c and my Limited User a/c) - just ran a full scan in Safe Mode under Admin and only found 1 tracking cookie (one of those @%&$@) Real.com ones).

At the moment, you can still manually download and unzip Defs from here - the install path for SE Defs (from memory) is C:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware Personal/Plus/Pro.

Not anymore, unfortunately. And if it's there, well, I don't see it.

You can download the latest defs file (SE1R212 07.01.2008) from http://download.lavasoft.com/public/defs.zip
I did this about an hour ago and it worked fine. I unzipped the new file and I now have the above file loaded in Ad-Aware SE Personal. I just went to C:\Program Files, opened the Lavasoft folder, unzipped the new defs file and the old one was overwritten.

Hi C_Editor,

Uh, I don't know quite what you are seeing/doing, but I just clicked on the link in my post above (the blue word "here") and it took me straight to the page in my screen shot.

The manual download link for both AAW SE and AAW 2007 Defs is in the top-right corner, exactly where the screenie shows it to be.

Clicking there takes you to http://download.lavasoft.com/public/defs.zip, as Madeline9 has just posted.

Regards,

Spike

Ad-Aware 2007 definitely does run in safe mode. We don't recommend continuing to use Ad-Aware SE because the removal engine is not effective against today's malware threats. Please upgrade your SE to the new 2007 version instead. See here:
