Hello, hope someone could help?

I had trouble downloading the Ad-Aware Personal SE 2007. Finally did and I got 2 icons: one soft blue & grey color and the other is a green sphere with 2 orange color ribbons crossed over it. Is tnis it? Because though I downloaded, deleted and reinstalled it several times...and still gives me this error message immediately on my clicking to open the scan! In other words, BEFORE I even can start the scan:

QUOTE
System Error 1810 occurred. Description: Service is Not online. Application terminates.

I had no problems with the previous version... Thanks so very much for any help! Adela

Welcome to the Lavasoft Support Forums

The 1810 error indicates that the Service (aawservice.exe) has been stopped and therefore AAW 2007, which is dependent on the Service cannot run.

Lets see if you can get a scan to run this way:
  • Close Ad-Aware 2007
  • Go to the start menu, click 'Run...' and type in 'services.msc'
  • In the services window, locate 'Ad-Aware 2007 Service', select it and click 'Stop'
  • Once the service has been stopped, click on "Start"
  • Then re-open Ad-Aware 2007 and try running a scan

Please let me know if this helps

Hello and thanks so much SpySentinel! Yes! The icon I got is the one you have under your nickname. I had tried your good suggestion before, which I found elsewhere in this forum. It must've been already stopped since it only showed "Start", so I clicked on "Start" and tried to scan it, but I got the message I already mentioned above. However, I tried it again today and again it was already stopped and I clicked on "Start"...but this time I get this other message:

QUOTE
Could not start the Ad-Aware 2007 Service service or local computer.
Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.

...and I tried it again before I wrote this hoping it would work by my persistence...but no luck as I got the same message. I hope you and/or others might know what it means and how to fix? Thanks a lot for another sugestion. smile.gif Adela

Hi

I believe there is a problem with your installation, alternatively a conflict with 3rd party software.

I would suggest that you turn off the AVG and Spybot software temporarily.

Uninstall Ad-Aware, download the latest version of Ad-Aware 2007 and reinstall.

Open Ad-Aware and run a full scan. Remove any infections and close the program.

Turn on the AVG etc again.

Open Ad-Aware.

If you still have problems, please reply with details of what went wrong including any warnings or actions made by other programs or Windows.

Thanks very much Barnes! I tried exactly what you so kindly suggested and it worked...only to the point where the results are. It said I had 114 infected items, so I clicked on "Remove' but nothing happened even though the little hand sank into the "Remove" link. I then tried the "Quarantine" and the same thing. So I clicked on "finish"...but a popup msg said something like "You haven't handled an item yet". I looked and looked and saw no way of removing or quaranting those infected items.

Please let me know what's the top secret of Lavasoft in this new version? Or, if possible, could you tell me how to download the previous version I had which was simpler for me?

Thanks so very much for any help! Adela

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO THIS FORUM! smile.gif

Thank you mspellman but, as mentioned in my Dec. 11 post (forgive my duplicating the question) I got it to work, BUT, when getting the results the "Remove" and "Quarantine" buttons don't open when I click on them. The only button that opens is the "Finish". So I've been clicking on "Finish" but it doesn't show any signs of having deleted the infected files it found or what it did with them...

Would you or others in this forum know what to do with the results? Thanks you so much! Adela

Hi Adela,

A solution that may solve your problems. Please close AAW 2007 and then follow the instructions in this AAW 2007 for the 1800 error messages: How do I resolve the "Error 1800" problem?

Then re-open AAW 2007 and select/save the settings that you wish for.

Please let us know how you get on.

Regards,

Spike

Thank you spikek for the link to fix the error 1800, but I no longer had this error; however, I followed the link's instructions to delete "settings.aaw" and saving it, but when I tried it again it still didn't allow me to delete or quarantine the infected files that indicates to have found. And again when I clicked the only button available: "finish" a msg said: "There are unhandled objects. Do you still want to finish?".

I will delete it completely and reinstall (though I had problems installing it in the first place). Then I shall be trying one at a time most of the suggestions so kindly given me in this forum.

One question about mspellman's suggestion:

"Go to system services, double click the adaware service, select the log on tab, give adaware administrator privileges, click apply."

I'd like to start with the easier tries. Would this suggestion be easier than re-installing? Also, where can I find the "Sistem Services"? And "to give onself administrator privileges" do I get this from Ad-Aware or from Microsoft?

Thanks to everyone so much! Adela
