I also had an error in TVirtualSringTree.

In my case this program error was: "Access violation at address 0053862A in module 'Ad-Aware2007.exe'.
Read of address 0000000D."

This error occurred immediately following my deleting the Tracking Cookies found in a Full Scan.

I am using Ad-Aware 2007 Free Version 7.0.2.6. I had just completed download and install plus an
update of the latest fixes.

A search of the Software Updates shows that an error in TVirtualSringTree was fixed in V7.0.1.5 July 6th 2007.

My System is Windows XP Home, SP2 with all updates applied to date.

Also have TVirtualStringTree access violation. Just downloaded Lavasoft 2007 free version. Error message reads: Access violation at address 005382E2 in Module 'Ad-Aware2007.exe.' Read of address 0000000D. Then it said to contact support services with the web address and then the program would close.
Was removing cookies found from a 'smart scan' prior to this error message. After the program closed down, I restarted it, then performed update of software. The update completed, then when I was asked to save new settings (I did not make any changes to the settings and assumed that was a result of the update) and clicked yes, I got an error message from Ad-Aware that the changes were not saved and then program quit responding.

Hi - Newbie and non-techie here ... I received the TV Virtual String Tree error: Access violation at address 0053A608 in module Ad-Aware2007.exe read of address 0000000D. This happened when I was completing a scan and taking action on removing cookies and MRU items.

This has happened in the past ... I've run the scan again to assure that all is clean.

The message prompts the user to contact Lavasoft, but using the url given, the user cannot make a report. So, I can't do what I was asked to do by Lavasoft, which is kinda frustrating.

Thanks for help from anyone.

Cheers

Hi

This problem has been resurfacing lately and the resolution is usually to reinstall the program.

This issue is most likely being caused by an outdated version of the software or installer.

Please make sure you have the latest version of the installation package.
You can download the latest installation package here:
http://www.lavasoft.com/products/ad_aware_free.php

Make sure to turn off other security software temporarily, before reinstalling Ad-Aware 2007.

First, uninstall the previous version and then install using the latest package, this should resolve your issue.

Then click on the "Update" button to ensure that you have the latest definition file and program version.

Finally, run a full system scan and remove any objects found.

Does the error repeat itself?

goodmornin',

I have the AdAware free version, running on XP.
since "upgrading" to the 2007 version, i too have had regular "TVirtualStringtree" problems.
With the "free" version, there is no access to support (though the "pop-up" error notification requests a report to Lavasoft be made) beyond the forums.
reloading the program has not helped. removing, downloading AND reloading the program has not helped.

however, i have noted the problem consistently appears if:

1) stop scan BEFORE it finishes

and/or

2) when "Removing".

a) when selecting item listed then clicking "remove", a SECOND box will usually appear waiting 'to be selected'.
cool.gif do NOT select the second selection box OR click "remove" additional times. to do so WILL cause the pop-up
error notification.
c) if the pop-up error notification APPEARS, do NOTHING until the number in the tab/folder (i.e. CRITICAL)
has reached ZERO. THEN close the pop-up error notification box.
d) closing the pop-up error notification box will cause the AD-AWARE program to close itself.
