Hello LadyDi,
QUOTE
When I tried to remove Ad-Aware 2007 (free) it will not remove and says 'fatal error 1720' 'Problem with Windows Installer package. A script required for this install to complete could not be run
Perhaps I could have been a little clearer and said that the FAQ, although worded from an installation perspective, also applies to problems with uninstalling which relate to issues with the WSH (ie:Windows Script Hosting), which was the wording contained in your error message.
There have been quite a few Topics on this particular subject, where success has been achieved by following these steps (click on "Search" in the top right of the forum and type in
+error +1720 +uninstall - there are over a page of Topics listed).
Here are the suggested steps - it may take only one of them, or all of them, to help you on your way:
1)
Stopping the Service- Go to the start menu, click 'Run...' and type 'services.msc'
- In the services window, locate 'Ad-Aware 2007 Service', select it and click 'Stop'
- When the service is stopped, try to uninstall again
2)
Updating Windows Script HostingIf you still receive the 1720 error, please go to the
Windows Script page, download and (re)install the Windows Script. Then try uninstalling again.
3)
Windows Installer Cleanup UtilityIf you still can't uninstall try downloading the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility from
here and run that.
In the list of programs detected by the WICU, locate AAW 2007 and select it, then click on "Remove".
Please post back with how you get on.
Regards,
Spike
