I've read other posts and haven't found a solution to my problem. Either the files weren't there or they keep coming back. I keep getting windows popping up directing me to several different websites (safewebnavigate.com, yourprivacyguard.com, gomyhit.com, etc.). 3 files each that direct IE to different sites also appear on my desktop, as well as links appear in my favorites that correspond with the desktop items. Deleting and using Smitfraudfix do no good as they come back on their own after some time. Also, Ad-Aware (pro version) keeps finding the same Malware Win32.TrojanDownloader.NewMedia over and over no matter how many times I either quarantine or remove the files. I also have Spy Sweeper by Webroot, it keeps blocking the files trojan-ace-x, TrojanPmwDl-Gen, trojan.gen, and trojan-agent.gen over and over. Yet again, to delete or quarantine these files is ineffective. Here I will post the Hijackthis log that I performed after running Ad-Aware and deleting said infection.

Note: After I read a few more topics I wasn't very sure of how badly my computer may be infected so I started this new thread. You may delete my previous topic as this contains more information. Any help what-so-ever will be greatly appreciated.

Quick update-

Somehow through clearing some quaratined items I've been able to temporarily take back my computer (doesn't make sense to me either...). However, my Spy Sweeper has just blocked some new activity - MALBHO-D, Mal/Generic-A, and "whenu"(2 times). My Ad-Watch hasn't gotten anything new, however, RegShield logged 1271 events within 4 hours and 2 Cookie events in the same time frame (typed a copy, can post if you want). I will run both my anti-virus tomorrow to pick up whatever may be leftover. In the meantime, if there's any maintenance I can do to keep this from coming back up in the future, please let me know.

Hi,

First of all, please uninstall your Nvidia Firewall (NetworkAccessManager) since you already having the McAfee Firewall. The Nvidia Firewall is a buggy firewall anyway.

Then, also disable your Ad-Watch because it may interfere with next fixes.

Then,

* Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)

* Reboot into Safe Mode`: ( without networking support !)
°To get into the Safe mode as the computer is booting press and hold your "F8 Key". Use your arrow keys to move to "Safe Mode" and press your Enter key.

* Doubleclick SmitFraudFix to start the tool.
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

(Warning : running option #2 will set your desktop background blank again. But you can reapply your desktop background again afterwards

You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart it into Normal Windows.
A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process.

Post the log from smitfraudfix in your next reply together with a new hijackthislog.
The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

I will get rid of the NVIDIA firewall after this post, I am also in the process of removing McAfee (just not satisfied with it) to which it is being very difficult with me.

Hi,

This is an error in your Internet Explorer.
Let's test first if it's one of your Toolbars/Browser add-ons causing this in Internet Explorer..
To find out, look at this screenshot how to run IE7 without add-ons:



So select "Start without add-ons" and your Internet Explorer will open. Let me know if you still receive the same error.
Keep in mind, next time, when you close your IE again and reopen it again, then the add-ons will be loaded again, so make sure you test it with the "Start without add-ons".

I dont have that option, but I went into "Manage Add-ons" and disabled all of them in the option "Add-ons currently loaded in Internet Explorer" and now it works fine. My Java add-ons are whats doing it (trial and error).

So you're sure it's the Java add-on causing this? ssv.dll ?
In that case, since Java has an update anyway, uninstall Java Runtime Environment 6.0 Update 2 and install the latest version:
Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 3

Let me know if that solved your issue. However, I have to tell that I have seen this error a lot with Java when McAfee is installed (especially the combination McAfee Toolbars and add-ons + Java causing this)

By the way.. You actually do have it though, but in your case it will be via start > all programs > Accessories > System Tools - Just FYI

Not anymore. IE works fine after haven't installed the update, but not Mozilla.

As for McAfee, the problem I'm having with removing it is that I couldn't use the uninstall function because it was missing for some reason and I can't just delete it out of the system (dunno if that would even be a good or bad thing to do), "Cannot delete mcagntps.dll: Access is denied". But luckily my system really isn't all that slow, I can manage to deal with it the way it is, just haven't seen McAfee do any good, probably haven't updated it right.

Well, there were more McAfee related components missing as I saw in your log - it's not fully installed anymore. Maybe better to reinstall it if you want to keep it.

What's the problem with Mozilla? (I assume you mean Firefox?)

So, the MCPR.exe didn't work for me (my fault I do believe), but I did manage to go through and delete everything in my McAfee.com folder on an item-by-item basis, so it's completely off my computer now, w/ exception for the fact that HiJackThis still picks up McAfee and I can't stop that from happening by using the "Fix" function.


Strangely enough it decided to start working again... doesn't make sense to me...

To get rid of them, go to start > run and copy and paste next commands one by one in the field and hit enter after every command:

sc delete McDetect.exe

sc delete McShield

sc delete McTskshd.exe

sc delete mcupdmgr.exe

sc delete MskService

While I'm here and I've got a very knowledgable person here, is there anything I can do to speed up my internet connection. I have cable internet and sometimes I feel like I'm on dial-up...

Disable Spysweeper's Website monitor will already improve speed. Actually, there's no need to leave Spysweeper enabled in the background since you already have Ad-watch running as well. Both monitor changes - so this may only cause an extra slowdown.

Ever considered to use Firefox?

Mozilla Firefox works pretty well, I tend to switch between the two alot. I was thinking of using just Spy Sweeper, but if its constantly using the connection, I'll go ahead and use the Ad-Watch. As far as the site, I clicked on "What Really Slows Windows Down", just what DOESN'T slow windows down????? I guess the only thing to do is to minimize as many of those programs on start-up and what I use constantly as much as possible.

Well, the fact that you uninstalled McAfee is already a big improvement in speed.
Don't forget to install another Antivirus, because you really need one. A good and free one I recommend is Avira.
