I'm having great trouble getting things back to normal, I first thought that I had one virus that was constantly poping up telling me to get new spyware, and at the same time creating a laf1.dll file that Norton would find but not be able to delete. I profored a solution from another post and it got rid of the anoying pop up but not the norton virus problem. Alog with norton finding the virus it then does not let you onto the net. If you disable realtime protection you can search again on the net.

Any help would be much aprechiated.

Hi,

laf1.dll is indeed a bad file and needs to get removed, but the problem here is, since it's set as a Winsock/LSP component, that explains why you cannot access the Internet Afterwards if the file is blocked or removed.
However, it's easy to deal with this though...

If you're having XP Service Pack 2, do next please..

Go to start > run and type cmd
A dos Window will appear.
Type next in the dos window: netsh winsock reset
hit enter.

Reboot your Computer.

This command only works for XP Service Pack 2 since this command is not supported by Service Pack 1.

After you have rebooted your computer, the default winsock/lsp should be set again and the laf1.dll will not be loaded anymore, so then you can let Norton delete that file.
I instructed the same here: http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/index.php?s...ost&p=55485
And that worked like a charm.

In case you're not having XP Service pack 2, let me know.
