Each and every time I switch on my computer Ad-Aware starts to update but the three updates are always the same, viz. -

....Grisoft\AVGFree\microavi.avg
....Grisoft\AVGFree\upd_vers.cfg
....Grisoft\AVGFree\incavi.avm

Could anyone please explain what is going on and can I stop these seemingly unnecessary updates which waste time?

Those are updates for AVG (anti-virus program). It loads up automatically on startup, and downloads the latest virus definitions. It's good that they are there, as it shows you have an up-to-date anti-virus program running on your computer.

Thanks for that info. If I am getting the latest virus definitions I would have thought that they would have a differing description each time to show that they are new definitions or is this standard practice.
Seems odd to me.
