After reinstalled XP SP2 MCE, I installed the latest free version of Ad-Aware 2007 (7.0.1.6). When it launched the first deep scan, I checked the services in Task Manager to monitor resource usage of this new version.

The aawservice, understandably, racks up large number of Reads as it scans the drive. What I don't understand is the large number and volume of disk Writes. At this point, after reading 20 GB it has written out 1.6 GB! Is AA2007 building some kind of fingerprint index that will permenantly add 8% storage overhead to every file? When or how is that space reclaimed - especially if I revert to SE.

thanks!
