Hello.
I hope that one or more of you have suggestions. My computer seems to be hijacked.
Every so often (and sometimes when I open a new internet browser or my outlook mail), the computer will go nuts, giving itself commands like search, opening up my MS excel, opening up my start menu, trying to add whatever is the current webpage and making it a shortcut link on my desktop. Sometimes, it cascades my open windows, other times it turns it into window panes so that you can see every open window at the same time. It lasts for about 10 seconds or so, and then nothing. It started doing it after I accidentally went to the wrong website (searching for credit card reviews), I think the website was like www.credit-cards.com or something like that, and picked one that apparently had a lot of malware built into it. I am running Symantec AV CE in the background.
1. I cleared my history, my cache, my temp and temporary internet folders. Deleted everything in them.
2. Then I did a full Symantec scan (ver. 8.1.0.825, engine is 4.2.0.7, definition versions is 8/16/2007), and nothing was found.
3. Then I dl'ed Ad-Aware 2007 this morning, and ran it once, and found 3 critical (Alexa family) and about 400 other cookie related things. I deleted them all.
4. Then I ran it again in smart mode, and it found VX2 and another infection. I deleted them.
5. Then I ran it again, this time in full mode again, and it found nothing.
The problem is still there though. Every now and then it just starts going crazy and my mouse cursor is moving so fast that I can barely see what it is doing.
Questions:
1. Have any of you heard of this kind of thing before, or seen it?
2. Do you think this is related to the VX2 infection, and does AA2007 need the VX2 cleaner plugin? Does that still exist or is it built into this version of Ad-Aware?
3. What should I do now?
Thank you in advance,
