Full Version: How get 'meaningful' cookie info?

I'm using Ad-Aware SE Personal. When I scan and at the end see an object like "Cookie: johndoe@tribalfusion.com", I can double click it for more info...

But it just brings up a generic/canned description that this cookie "might collect marketing info". That watered-down generic statement doesn't seem very helpful at all.

Is there a way to find out more specific and meaningful info like...

"Tribal fusion is a cookie that is left by a popular such and such service or website, most notably, xyz.com, that is used by marketers to typically collect info about such and such (or whatever it does)."

Alternatively, is there a certain kind of cookie or level of risk that a user should always be more concerned about than others... like, if you see such and such cookie, that's one that you always want to delete or take some other stronger action?

Thanks for bearing with my newbie questions,
George

Though it won't tell you what each cookie does, you could use AnalogX CookieWall, which tells you whenever a new cookie is placed on your computer. It is a small utility which gives you the choice whether to accept, temporarily accept (and then delete when you leave the site) or never accept a cookie. In general, I accept cookies from places like my internet bank, ISP and other trusted sites. Other sites, I temp accept then delete when I leave. You can find CookieWall at http://www.analogx.com/contents/download/network/cookie.htm

Hope this helps,
