Hi,

I try to "run" the install and get the message . . . The system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation.
I cannot "fix" my mccafee so it is turned off and won't let me do anything to it.

I ran your hijackthis and have a log ready if you can please help me . . .

Thanks!

I am the administrator. I have never had a problem like this untill I got whatever this is.
I am assuming that IT changed a whole lot of thinks in my system, including not allowing me to install. I have gone to every area I can to try to find out and reverse the settings, but cannot figure it out. I have tried to download and install a new windows installer and can't do that either.
Somewhere, my settings have been corrupted and I just don't know where to go next.

start your system in safe mode and try to correct the changed rights.
In case of doubt use google to find a apposite solution.

Is this machine infected?
I'm asking because of your statement that Mcafee is turned off. If you did not do that on purpose this may well be an infection problem.

If infected, that may be blocking the install and some malware is known to delete the "safe boot" key to keep you from booting into safe mode and also makes some changes to Administrative rights and settings. I can't tell without some extensive diagnostics.

If this machine IS infected, let's take a closer look to see what may be going on. Go ahead and post the HijackThis log and I'll review it for you, as I am now subscribed to this topic and will get a notice whenever you post a reply here.

Nothing showing there, but then it would be better to see a scan done in NORMAL mode (not safe mode).

Also, it's best to move your HijackThis.exe to it's own permanent folder - make one for it as follows:
Please make a new folder to put your HijackThis.exe into. Anywhere on your hard drive is fine other than your Desktop or the Temp folder. We suggest you use something like "C:\Program Files\HijackThis" but feel free to use any name. See here for specific instructions and screen shots to help:

This is to ensure it makes the necessary backups for recovery if needed.

Could you run a Hijackthis scan in normal mode and post a new log.

Let's also run these 3 tools next as well (also in normal mode - not safe mode)

1. Download ComboFix from Here to your Desktop.

Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall

2. Please download Rootkit Revealer
http://www.sysinternals.com/utilities/rootkitrevealer.html
(link is at the very bottom of the page)

Unzip it to your desktop.
Open the rootkitrevealer folder and double-click rootkitrevealer.exe
Click the Scan button (bottom right)
It may take a while to scan (don't do anything while it's running - leave the PC idle during the scan!)
When it's done, go up to File > Save. Choose to save it to your desktop.
Open rootkitrevealer.txt on your desktop and copy the entire contents and paste them here

AND, if you could please one other free tool as well

3. Download the free beta trial of this tool from F-Secure called Blacklight
F-Secure Blacklight:
https://europe.f-secure.com/blacklight/try.shtml
Doubleclick on bibeta.exe to run it.
Click the *I accept* button near the bottom of that page.
Download and run blacklite click > scan then > next, next again then exit
there will be a new text file near blacklite.Post it please. The text file is named:
fsbl.xxxxxxx.log (the xxxxxxx stand for numbers)
!!Do not rename any files yet

Post those 3 logs next (they should not take very long). That will give me lots of things to look at in case something is running hidden.

What makes you know this machine is infected? Did you get some notices or alerts, or just the symptoms (if you could enumerate those would help)

I know I am infected because it took me 5 hours to produce this log for you in "normal" mode.
I am so frustrated . . . . !@#$%
I was not able to do what you requested regarding the extra logs . . . every time I tried to load the internet it froze up. I was happy just to get the this log. Can I run the other logs in safe mode?
ANY help would be gratefully appreciated . . . I hope this is complete, it is hard for me to tell when the system has actually completed something!

I was not able to do what you requested regarding the extra logs . . . every time I tried to load the internet it froze up. I was happy just to get the this log. Can I run the other logs in safe mode?
ANY help would be gratefully appreciated . . . I hope this is complete, it is hard for me to tell when the system has actually completed something!

ComboScan should run in safe mode if you can use another computer to download it and transfer to the infected machine. It may require a reboot to produce a log, just be sure that you don't click on the window while it's running to avoid a possible hang.

Blacklight will not run in safe mode - so skip that for now.

Let's see how far you get with that and let me know also if this is on a company network and if so, what version of Ad-Aware are you trying to use/install? The Enterprise version or Plus or Pro?

What other scans have you done and what were the results? Any infections found?

Download SDFix.exe from http://downloads.andymanchesta.com/RemovalTools/SDFix.exe
and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and choose Install to extract it to its own folder on the Desktop. Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
• Restart your computer
• After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
• Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
• Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
• Choose your usual account.
• Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
• Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
• It will remove any Trojan Services or Registry Entries found then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
• Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
• When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.

This worked for me, and Adaware 2007 personal installed just fine.
