This is my first post and I am not super technical but here is my problem.
Firstly I read the PINNED topic and ran CHKDISK the defragged the computer but still the following happens.
My Ad-Aware SE locks up at the following stage:
Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SharedDLLs...
53 Running Processes
2252 Process Modules
And the number of Objects Scanned is always in the ballpark of 80094
This problem just started occuring a couple of weeks ago. I Windows XP Media Center with SP2, I run Norton's Antivirus 2006, and I have Windows Defender from Microsoft. I have had these products for a long time and Ad-Aware SE Personal never locked up before a couple of weeks ago.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You very much.

As of yet I have had no reply from my post.
Here is what I have done:
1.) Made a HiJackThis Log file
2.) Made a Rootkit Revealer text file
3.) Made a log file from Blacklight
There are no logs in C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Lavasoft\Ad-aware\Logs
I guess the reason is because Ad-Aware continues to lock up while scanning.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Hi, acebrando. I recall Steve (LS SteveJ) mentioning that he was going to post an archive of the Definition Files so that users suddenly experiencing similar problems could try earlier Def Files to determine where/when the issue started. With the relocation of their offices, it doesn't appear that he has had time to set that up.
In the meantime, there is an old document on
Ad-Aware Freezing/Hanging Help that may be of assistance.

Thanks, Corrine! I will look at that old document that you gave a hyperlink to.
Thanks again,

Thanks for the reply. I read the hyperlink you gave and I see someone's Ad-Aware is hanging up at the Shared DLLs just like mine.
I have tried everything (troubleshooting) that has been posted in here but it is still hanging up at this same spot.
Guess we will have to just wait for a complete solution.

Good News! My Ad-Aware SE finally does a complete scan; it no longer locks up. I am almost confident that what solved the issue was this: I did another CHKDISK, but this time I checked both boxes, Automaically fix file system errors & Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors.
Before, whenever Ad-Aware would lock up, it would always lock up while scanning the Shared DLL folder. Interestingly enough after I re-booted the computer and the CHKDISK started up it said it replaced a couple of bad sectors (or files) in System32. The specific files that got replaced were DLL files. The CHKDISK took almost 2 hours to complete.
Problem Solved!
So that's my success story. Hope it helps someone.
Now the only problem is that when I go to update the definitions it says there are no definitions to update. It's been like this for over a week, maybe longer.
