I run a McAfee free scan and it picked up this problem, Adware-Softomate, yet running the program didnt remove it. what now?

Well, being this is the Lavasoft (Ad-aware) support forum and not McAfee support, I expect that's why no one probably can answer your question. You also didn't give us much information at all.
Would need to see reference to it from the log. File name, full path, etc.
Softomate toolbar, might be a legitimate tool, might not. Some spyware uses it but also some legitimate toolbars are made with Softomate. Can't tell without seeing the file name, location (full path) and exactly what McAfee has to say about it (what infection...or is it just calling it a risk tool)
Did you also run Adaware? Did it pick up the this toolbar as well?
