Hello all,
I have been trying (unsuccessfully) to rid my PC of spyware and viruses for over a month now, and have finally decided to ask for help. Originally this was a "WinAntivirus Pro" pop-up issue, however I was successful in stopping that, along with some near-constant warnings from BitDefender about random trojan.downloader infections. What has remained, has proven beyond me to fix:
When I start Internet Explorer(6), BitDefender pops up stating that it blocked an infection from "Adware.Purityscan.FR", referencing some "ymtsqiq.dll" file (name changes sometimes). I can then browse around without any further complaints from B.D., but if I open a new window, I usually get the same warning about Purityscan.
I have also noticed that when I start a spyware scan, I will usually get the same warning. (I typically scan with Ad-Aware and S.B.S.D., although in my quest to rid my PC of gremlins have also recently installed S.A.S.)
Running a complete scan using B.D. does detect the offending .dll file, but is unable to disinfect it, so it then moves it. After the next reboot, it comes back as another file name variation.
I had temporarily given up, until today when I attempted to run Ad-Aware, it locked up very early in the scan while performing "Deep scanning local registry". Now maybe I can just re-install Ad-Aware and it will scan completely, but it has not been able to fix this issue in the recent past, and I'm sick of it, so I decided to seek professional help.
Thanks for your time,
hef
