Full Version: Imo Yahoo Has Crossed The Malware Line

Yahoo modified my Musicmatch Jukebox Install to make it Nagware.

I have been using Musicmatch Jukebox 10 Plus (paid for version) for a long while and now it has been bought by Yahoo who released an "updated" version called "Yahoo Music Jukebox" which I will never upgrade to.

June 20th comes along and my install of MMJB crashes upon opening. After a second attempt it crashes agan and a new window comes up asking me if I want to upgrade to Yahoo Music Jukebox even though I have unchecked the box that says "check for upgrades". After that MMJB wont run at all. I reboot and all is well BUT every 5th time I run the program, the upgrade to Yahoo Music Jukebox comes up.

Yahoo has entered my computer, modified my MMJB install and converted it to NAGWARE by installing MALWARE on my machine.

I would have dumped MMJB along time ago but unfortunately I really like the program and have custom tagged a huge number of music files using their tagging system and I can't convert the custom tags for other players.

Warning: if you use MMJB as a music player only, use a software firewall to block it from phoning home or your copy of MMJB will be converted to NAGware.

PS. It is really hard to block MMJB from phoning home and with some firewalls MMJB will take 2 min to load as it tries to phone home.

Blocking it after the fact doesn't work which suggests that files have been modified

I used my Acronis image to roll back MMJB to June 14 2007. No more nags from Yahoo.

I also did a directory compare and found out that no executables were modified but a number of other files were.

I have used Windows firewall to block every MMJB executable from accessing the internet. I don't want to install a another software firewall as I find them a pain.

I hope this works.

Smells like victory ........

Blocking every executable in the entire MMJB directory structure using windows firewall seems to prevent the Yahoo nag screen from coming back. BUT if you do that you won't be able to use MMJB radio, but I dont use that anyway.

If you have it already you need to roll back if you have something to roll back to.
