Yes, I should not have downloaded that free game file on to my computer, but I did.
I ran adaware and it crashes soon after finding whatever the problem in my system is. Firefox is being redirected to health suppliment sites and it has put several new shortcut icons on my desktop. Strangely, my system says no BHO's are running at the moment, and normally something from google and yahoo are. My apologies if I am asking a silly question or not giving enough info, I read all the stickies and hope I am posting this right. Hi llindsay13,
Welcome to the forum Logfile of HijackThis v1.97.7 <---That version of HijackThis is obsolete. Please delete HijackThis.exe on your computer. Get the latest version here: Download HijackThis http://www.merijn.org/files/hijackthis.zip Please make a new folder to put your HijackThis.exe into. Anywhere on your hard drive is fine <I>other than your Desktop or the Temp folder</I>. We suggest you use something like "C:\Program Files\HijackThis" but feel free to use any name. See here for specific instructions and screen shots to help: http://russelltexas.com/malware/createhjtfolder.htm This is to ensure it makes the necessary backups for recovery if needed. Unzip/decompress the HijackThis.zip file and save the contents (HijackThis.exe) to the new folder you made and make sure you run it from there. You can make a shortcut to the desktop for HJT if you find that easier. Then post a new log from the current version of HijackThis for review -------------------- Please do NOT send Private Messages to Staff or helpers to request assistance! We do not give a personal support via PM The way to request help is to post a NEW TOPIC in the appropriate forum.

There is nothing showing on the HijackThis log, but you still need to put it in it's own folder:
QUOTE Please make a new folder to put your HijackThis.exe into. You're running it straight out of the zip file - so you need to extract/decompress the HijackThis.zip and put it in the new folder you made (above). However, since nothing is showing on the current log to fix, let's give this tool a try. Go here: http://noahdfear.geekstogo.com/ and follow the directions for using SmitRem on Windows ME. When you are done, post back here with the log named smitfiles.txt And the results of the online AV scan -------------------- Please do NOT send Private Messages to Staff or helpers to request assistance! We do not give a personal support via PM The way to request help is to post a NEW TOPIC in the appropriate forum.

Thanks again for your help and patience. Turns out that I had a bad case of the Look2Me virus.
Ran AdAware in safe mode and found out although it wasn't able to remove the files. Downloaded all the programs listed on the Look2Me thread and they didn't work either. Finally, I just manually removed the files in the windows system file and hoped for the best. Seems to have worked. |

Look2me on a WinME system has no signs in a HijackThis log. And some scanners can find it but have trouble removing it as you found out. The tools we use on a Win2k system or WinXP don't work on Windows ME.
This is the tool you should use as it's developed just for WinME. Run this please to see if any additional files are found. Please download L2m9xfix from here: GeeksToGo Save it to the desktop and run it. Extract the files, and then open the l2m9xfix folder you just created and run RunThis.bat. A window will open, and your desktop will disappear, then reappear. Please be patient until the batch says it is completed. Then please restart your computer, and post a new HijackThis log as well as the entire text of the log.txt file which should be in the same folder as RunThis.bat. -------------------- Please do NOT send Private Messages to Staff or helpers to request assistance!
