I tried upgrading to Ad-Aware 9.5 on several different lab PCs, All PCs have XP SP3 with updates (as of 08.25.11):

PC1:
I tried to install Ad-Aware 9.5 using the downloaded msi package, it starts the uninstall using Ad-Aware 9.07 uninstaller, part way through an error message pops up, click retry, then cancel, OK, then finish, does not auto restart. Manually restart, run 9.5 msi package which then tries to unistall the 9.07 version, same error messages as above. Restored Ad-Aware 9.07.

PC2:
Ran the Revo uninstaller using advanced features and removed everything related to Ad-Aware 9.07. Rebooted and started install for Ad-Aware 9.5 using the downloaded msi package, the install starts then ends in a Windows Installer dialog box appearing on screen. Restored Ad-Aware 9.07.

PCs have the most current wininstaller 4.5 (WindowsXP-KB942288-v3-x86), I installed the newest antivirus msi package with no problems, reinstalled WindowsXP-KB942288-v3-x86 to correct any problems with the installer, same results as below... there must be a problem with the Ad-Aware msi and Windows XP, these are 5 different Dell PCs so it's not a hardware issue, the results are exactly the same regardless of hardware...

No I just get Error Could not access network location in a dialog box, click ok, then have a choice of retry or cancel, retry does nothing and cancel, click OK brings up the Ad-Aware Uninstallation Complete with restart box checked, Click Finish, after restarting, Ad-Aware 9.07 is still partially installed. Running Ad-Aware 9.5 starts to uninstall 9.07 again but same error messages occur. I am logged on with full admin privileges...

What is the 'Windows installer' message in PC2?

Have you used any registry cleaning or optimizing program in the computers?

Windows Installer message is the same for all when uninstalling Ad-Aware 9.07: part way through an error message pops up, click retry, then cancel, OK, then finish, does not auto restart. Manually restart, run 9.5 msi package which then tries to unistall the 9.07 version, same error messages as above. Reboot, install Ad-Aware 9.5, halfway through install stops and a Windows Installer box with command line switches appears.

I only used Revo on PC2, Ad-Aware and xp wininstaller on PC1, I used TweakNow PowerPack 2011 SP2b on PC3 with same results as before... after uninstalling all traces of Ad-Aware 9.07, install Ad-Aware 9.5 using the downloaded msi package, the install starts then ends in a Windows Installer dialog box appearing on screen...

What is the 'Windows installer' message in PC2?

Have you used any registry cleaning or optimizing program in the computers?

Please, attach screen shots (PrintScreen) of all messages, their content are important to understand what is going on.

The standard procedure, when installation issues occur, is to follow How to uninstall Ad-Aware 9.0 to uninstall the old version before the new version is installed.

Registry cleaners and optimizing program sometimes removes or fixes to much and that can give problems with for example uninstallations and installations of other programs.

I used the registry cleaner/optimizer program only on PC3, after trying the uninstall according to the link
"How To Uninstall Ad-Aware 9.0" on PC1 and PC2.

Here's the process I used: I don't have the Ad-Watch module installed. No Ad-Aware processes show in the task manager and in Services Lavasoft Ad-Aware Service is set to stop status and startup type = manual, Symantec AntiVirus disabled:
Run Revo Uninstaller, starts the Ad-Aware Uninstall:
http://i1081.photobucket.com/albums/j343/TECH7X24/AAW95/AAW9501.jpg
At this point I believe the program is trying to open Internet Explorer to the "reason why are you uninstalling Ad-Aware" webpage, but it stalls at a blank page... saying Connecting...
Whether you close Internet Explorer or leave it open, when you click on Uninstall, the error message appears:

Installation stops and this Windows Installer box appears...
When I click OK, box closes…
Ad-Aware 9.07 is uninstalled, 9.5 will not install...
I tried to install Ad-Aware 95 msi again, same Windows Installer box appears as before:

Thank you very much for all your work with the screen shots!

Try to install Ad-Aware from the 'Command Prompt' to get an installation log in the following way:

Start - All programs - Accessories
Right-click on 'Command prompt' and select 'Run as administrator' if available, if not left-click 'Command Prompt'.

Move (or download) the installation file, that is Ad-Aware95Install.msi, to the folder C:\ to make it easy to find with the 'Command Prompt'.

In the 'Command Prompt' enter this command:

msiexec /a C:\Ad-Aware95Install.msi /lierwm C:\Ad-AwareLog.txt

Ad-AwareLog.txt will then contain a lot of messages from the installation program.
Please, either paste the content of C:\Ad-AwareLog.txt into your answer or attach it.

You're Welcome on the screenshots...There are 2 more from this exercise below the Ad-AwareLog text...

As you requested....I ran the command prompt, left-click available only, logged on as Admin...
It started and finished in nanoseconds....I used 3 PC's (XPSP3 updated thru 08.25.11) , got exactly the same Ad-AwareLog results...

Here's the contents of Ad-AwareLog.txt:

Are you sure that you moved the installation file to C:\?
Then the error usually indicates that Windows Installer doesn't have enough privileges (permissions) or that, for example, an antivirus program interacts with Windows Installer. Please, turn off your antivirus program and try again.

If you still cannot install Ad-Aware and get the same error message in the log file, please move Ad-Aware95Install.msi to C:\Windows\Installer and use this command in the 'Command Prompt':

msiexec /a C:\Windows\Installer\Ad-Aware95Install.msi /lierwm C:\Ad-AwareLog.txt

Due to power outages from Hurricane Irene I was not able to get to this until today:
[Are you sure that you moved the installation file to C:\?

YES...
Then the error usually indicates that Windows Installer doesn't have enough privileges (permissions) or that, for example, an antivirus program interacts with Windows Installer. Please, turn off your antivirus program and try again.

All Symantec Antivirus services have been disabled/stopped...Lavasoft Ad-Aware service stopped/disabled...

msiexec /a C:\Windows\Installer\Ad-Aware95Install.msi /lierwm C:\Ad-AwareLog.txt

Isn't this blog info a little outdated?
It refers to net framework 2.0, all my labs are updated to 4.0

MSI © (00:38) [08:18:24:359]: Product: Ad-Aware -- Installation completed successfully.

I can restore to Ad-Aware 9.0 with no problems, so there's definitely a problem with the 9.5 msi. I have 98 lab PC's and I don't have time to manually uninstall 9.0 from each one to be able to install 9.5, so I'm going to stay with version 9.0 for now. It's almost that time to reconfigure the labs again, I'll try 9.5 on a new install, if it doesn't install even though I like Ad-Aware I'll have to do without it...I don't need the extra maintenance...and 9.0 is slow, I was looking forward to the new speedier version...Thank You for your help...

Sorry to hear about the hurricane :)

Strange, according to the log the program has been installed:

Don't you have the Pro version?
With the Pro version, you can use the Lavasoft support instead of this forum with volunteers. See this post by LS Digger Barnes for links:

According to the log it installed in less than 2 seconds...

No we don't have Pro, these are student demonstration use labs, the idea being that we show what's available in the software world for free and also for pay. In today's economic environment adding an additional licensed product is too costly, if I could add half the software requested licensing would be 3-4x the cost of the PC. As far as antivirus and alternatives, we also use Symantec Endpoint Protection, Spywareblaster and Spybot Search & Destroy so we are covered...I do like to introduce the Ad-Aware program to my students, some have purchased the Pro version. One of my IT Training students is an admin for a small company and she liked the Ad-Aware I have installed in the labs so much that she purchased the Ad-Aware for the servers & PC's in the company...I believe there are a total of 25 units.

Sorry to hear about the hurricane :(
