I had a very bad experience from yesterday to today. After I use the Ad-AwareSE to get new update from online, and get 8-12-2008, then scan my PC, the PC will crash immidiatly. On some of my PCs, I just use the Ad-AwareSE to scan the PC without update, it is OK. I can not believe that is cause by Ad-AwareSE new update. After I tried 4 PCs, They all crashed. Even I repaire the Windows 2000, then install McAfee, McAfee can detect the virus but can not fix it.

Slow down a little Jian!
You'll have to provide us with a little more information if your situation is to be resolved. What operating system are you running on these machines? All I can gather is that at least one is running 2000. What definitions file did you download? If a new definitions update has caused your machine(s) to crash, then the problem must be with that file. There's no need to go messing around with, let alone reinstalling other software. IMPORTANT - fatal error in def files from 8thDec 2008I have the same situation on two PCs running XP SP2 . When updating to definition files from 8th December. Ad-watch starts to find infection in all files and XP showing blue screen.
I use SE1R317 on Ad-Aware ver.1.05. When I turn off automatic mode I can saw that it finds all normal processes as Harmful process identified : 2008-12-09 22:16:32> Harmful process identified(PID:264) 2008-12-09 22:16:32> This object was found active in memory 2008-12-09 22:16:32> Object:Explorer.EXE 2008-12-09 22:16:32> Path:C:\WINDOWS\ 2008-12-09 22:16:32> Category: 2008-12-09 22:16:32> Vendor:Adware.IESuper 2008-12-09 22:16:32> Comment: 2008-12-09 22:16:32> 2008-12-09 22:16:32> Harmful process identified(PID:2284) 2008-12-09 22:16:32> This object was found active in memory 2008-12-09 22:16:32> Object:DrgToDsc.exe 2008-12-09 22:16:32> Path:C:\Program Files\Roxio\Drag-to-Disc\ 2008-12-09 22:16:32> Category: 2008-12-09 22:16:32> Vendor:Adware.IESuper 2008-12-09 22:16:32> Comment: 2008-12-09 22:16:32> 2008-12-09 22:16:44> Harmful process identified(PID:2460) 2008-12-09 22:16:44> This object was found active in memory (Blocked) 2008-12-09 22:16:44> Object:qttask.exe 2008-12-09 22:16:44> Path:C:\Program Files\QuickTime\ 2008-12-09 22:16:44> Category: 2008-12-09 22:16:44> Vendor:Adware.IESuper 2008-12-09 22:16:44> Comment: 2008-12-09 22:16:44> 2008-12-09 23:10:28> Registry modification detected 2008-12-09 23:10:28> 2008-12-09 23:10:28> Root:HKEY_CURRENT_USER 2008-12-09 23:10:28> Key:Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run 2008-12-09 23:10:28> Value:swg 2008-12-09 23:10:28> Data:C:\Program Files\Google\GoogleToolbarNotifier\1.2.1128.5462\GoogleToolbarNotifier.exe 2008-12-09 23:10:28> New Data:C:\Program Files\Google\GoogleToolbarNotifier\GoogleToolbarNotifier.exe |

Looks like a bad definitions file to me.
But the most puzzling thing here is why on Earth you're still using Ad-Aware SE if you're running XP?! You should upgrade to Ad-Aware 2008 immediately. This post has been edited by Jaheira: Dec 9 2008, 11:00 PM |

i have the same problem with SE Professional. i'm guessing that (s)he hasn't upgraded because of cost. It does get expensive buying new versions every year.
i get the same error, and just before mine shuts down, i get a warning from NT administrator that it will shut down...something about rpc... here is a link about the message with an image of it. nt authority This post has been edited by miztrniceguy: Dec 10 2008, 02:27 PM |

if you log into the support center (to which you are entitled due to your license) and you will find a new license code there which will work for 2008.
N.B this is only true if your SE lisence is still valid and current. Casey http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/index.php?showtopic=16176 -------------------- Think your computer is Infected?
