I am a Windows ME user and am trying to manually update the definitions for Ad-Aware SE 1.06r1. Can someone please tell me step-by-step how to update this file? I've also seen the phrase "extract to" used. I'm not sure how to 'extract to' so I also need a step-by-step on that part also.
Please help. Thanks. |

Forget it! None of the definitions files have worked with 98/ME since the middle of May. If you unzip the file into the correct place and fire up AAW SE, it'll throw up an error. Your only option is to grab the final file to work with 98/ME (Gelert's the man to ask if you want it, and I think he's pretty legit
Better to switch to a product from another company that still supports 98/ME such as:- There are a few more out there, but be careful as many are bogus. The above two were the favoured products amongst those of us still using a dinosaur OS!! This post has been edited by Jaheira: Aug 1 2008, 04:59 PM |

I've been manually updating successfully from the link for SE.
Today it shows a new update (SE1R277) definition file available, but when I download that, the ZIP file actually contains an older (SE1R275) update from July 31st. That's actually older than my previous (SE1R276) definition file. What's up? Just slow replacing the file online there at the download link? (no, I can't change up from SE, it's not my computer, sigh) EDITED --- the update is now updated, shows 8/6 timestamp. Thank you. This post has been edited by hank: Aug 6 2008, 11:50 PM |

I came to this forum today, and now I see why Ad-Aware SE does not find any updates!
I had expected Ad-Aware to inform me if I had to install a newer program version?! I never used the program on a regular basis, anyway. I think last time I tried to run it was around Easter time. Now I must download the new version. |

... Now I must download the new version. Yep. They quit doing it for us a few months back. But I'm very grateful they're still making the files available, for manual install. Is there a notice board anywhere, or email available, to warn that there's a new update for us stuck in SE yet? I don't always remember to check every day here. |

heres weird my SE just updated the easy way.
when did they start having the update button work again? I thought we had to go to the download page and add the file to the folder manually. |

SE is so much easier to use than the 2008 version. In fact I think 2008 is a step backwards with a non-userfriendly GUI.
I know they want to look pretty but man cant they just stick with what works.? I have had nothing but problems with 2008 and am going to uninstall it. |

Better to have an ugly product that can protect you than something pretty that doesn't! |
