I am running 98SE and would like to get the last availiable file for the ad-ware se personnal. thanks. Curious... SE1R247 has worked for "everybody else" who runs an old Win98-based OS...and is allegedly the "last" Defs Update that worked with 9x OS - file size is apparently the issue... Which defs file do you think that you need then...? I can offer SE1R242 (28 April 2008) through to SE1R270 (15 July 2008) via email, with a couple of exceptions: no SE1R248, or SE1R264... Dunno what happened to them - perhaps we can set-up a Swap-Meet and then I can get the complete set... FYI - SE1R242 = 3037 KB; SE1R247 = 3229 KB; SE1R270 = 4042 KB. -------------------- XP Pro SP3; ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite v8.0.059; WinPatrol Plus v15.9.2008.5; SpywareBlaster v4.1;

I re-installed ad-ware, manually added the def files twice and it still did not work. I will try again tomorrow. You might have a corrupt SE1R247 file...? Check the file size, which should be 3,229 KB. Even if your SE1R247 is that size though, it could still be corrupt...but it's as good a place to start as any. Next step is to test the MD5 Checksum. For SE1R247 this is 1d48aea0633f103b20573fc72e84e2d8 (source: http://www.lavasoft.com/support/securityce...p=227#more-227) I've used a freeware MD5 Checker from http://www.brothersoft.com/md5-checker-38853.html but there might be better ones about...? Test the UNzipped file (i.e. the Defs.File that you manually install). My SE1R247 13 May 2008 checksums match. Hope that this helps...? -------------------- XP Pro SP3; ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite v8.0.059; WinPatrol Plus v15.9.2008.5; SpywareBlaster v4.1;

Well, I've run into similar problems myself. My expiration date is end of August this year (about in a few weeks) and I had problems since mid-end of April this year, downloading both automatically and manually. Support said to install the refs file manually but this causes problems too. Now nothing works, corrupt def file it says.They've abandonded us. And I paid for a 2 year subcription in 2006... not a lot of dough but anyway. It's real license.
The bad thing is that they (LS) DON'T provide any old files on their site, just the latest updates. I can't find SE1R247 anywhere on thir site or the net. Now everything has stopped working. If I just can use the latest def file that worked within WIN98SE and AD-WATCH I'll be a happy camper until my subscripiton time runs out. My version is AD-AWARE SE Plus Build 1.06r1 I think, by and large that LS can't solve such trivial problems, like the others do (SAS etc). They wan't to force us going over to newer systems. Even Norton AV that runs on WIN98SE (av 7.51) has still valid updates on their site. I think it's ok that they don't support it anymore (like Norton) but just to have the downloads and updating of def files just stop working without prior notice is something which is not good. Since WIN98SE has been static for a couple of years now (i e not updated) there shouldn't be any problems keeping it up. Otherwise, they should stop selling 2 year subscriptions, because then we don't know when that support is going to end. I can very well live with downloading manually and installing it, but even that won't work. It does very much so with Norton AV, manually installing def files. Is it ok to PM you and ask for an April def file that worked? br /Mats Curious... For those who would like a source for SE1R247 file here is a link:
****************Removed*********************** This zip file is named defs1305.zip and it is 3,229 KB and the file in the zip file is 3305237 bytes. The file loads and operates with Ad-Aware SE Personal Build 1.06r1 on Windows 98SE. Now I understand the current Defs.ref file works with this program with XP. Why one would want to still use it if one has XP I don't understand. I do use Spybot S&D 1.4 only because 1.5.2 and 1.6 don't work on my 256Mb system. But 1.4 does work with the 1.5.2 and now 1.6 version teatimer. (1.4 teatimer had a display bug.) The teatimer gives real time detection. Mod. Edit. Sorry guys, we cannot allow links to offsite downloads for security reasons. Casey This post has been edited by casey_boy: Aug 24 2008, 11:27 PM |

For those who would like a source for SE1R247 file here is a link: <link omitted!!> This zip file is named defs1305.zip and it is 3,229 KB and the file in the zip file is 3305237 bytes. Dangerous, dangerous, DANGEROUS! How can you be sure it's bona fide?! It may be malware. Downloading security definitions from a 3rd party site is incredibly risky! Even if the file is legit it's over 3 months out of date, so you wont be protected against any malware created since mid May!! (I've omitted your link when quoting you, because as soon as a moderator sees it, they'll do the same!!) This post has been edited by Jaheira: Aug 23 2008, 12:33 PM |

(I've omitted your link when quoting you, because as soon as a moderator sees it, they'll do the same!!) Especially considering the amount of grief that I got, when I attempted to post a link to SE1R247 that I had uploaded to YouSendIt... But then I sort-of got to thinking that this particular definitions file is SOOoooooo OLD, that it really isn't worth the fall-out. Still...at least I'm now effectively "out-of-business"... -------------------- XP Pro SP3; ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite v8.0.059; WinPatrol Plus v15.9.2008.5; SpywareBlaster v4.1;

No problem Paul,
It's just that we can't allow it because we don't know if it is a safe file (may have been tampered with by anybody), so if we allowed we could be putting users at risk.
