I finally updated my father's old laptop/notebook with Windows 98 SE (Toshiba OEM and all updates from Windows Update). I updated his old "Ad-Aware SE Personal, b1.06r1 with the latest defs.ref file I downloaded (tried both 6/9/2008 and 6/12/2008). It now says "Warning! Definitions file not found or corrupted!" I tried other Ad-Aware SE Personal installation (not going to upgrade to the newer version at this time) in two XP Pro. SP2 and 2000 SP4, and they were fine.
I have two screen shots with the errors: http://img255.imageshack.us/img255/1274/ad...al106r1dvi0.gif What's up? Will this be fixed soon if it is a known issue? Thank you in advance. This post has been edited by Ant: Jun 15 2008, 01:00 AM |

Hi Ant, There are a whole load of threads on page 1 of this forum, basically discussing and coming to the same conclusion that all AdAware SE definitions, later than SE1R247 (13 May 2008), will not work on Win98-based OS. LavaSoft are aware of this issue. But as SE is now obsolete, they are not going to pursue the matter or provide a fix. There is an option for you to obtain SE1R247, which you will find if you read through the latest threads... Hope this helps...? -------------------- XP Pro SP3; ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite v8.0.059; WinPatrol Plus v15.9.2008.5; SpywareBlaster v4.1;

Hi Ant, That is disappointing. It works fine in XP SP2 and 2000 SP4, but not 98 SE? I guess we will bail SE then. Quoting 'Calamity Jane'.... SE is obsolete and outdated badly for today's malware and you really need to think about getting something for your Win98 (or ME). This list of trusted Antispyware Products is here: http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-s...htm#trustworthy At least two of those offer a free version that is compatible for Win98 and ME (Spybot Search & Destroy and SuperAntispyware) That is what I recommend you 98 and ME users need to do at this point. http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/index.php?showtopic=18270 Indeed, it is sad to say farewell. But at least it's still working for XP at present? Checkout the above thread item/web link from Calamity Jane - very useful. SUPERantispywarrior is free, but takes a loooong time to scan, (may not be so suitable for laptop batteries). If you want to read the 'epic' struggle, checkout the threads below... http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/index.php?showtopic=18145 http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/index.php?showtopic=18269 -------------------- "keep tellin' yourself......it's only a machine.......arrrgh!"
