As I said before, I can't see any reason why Lavasoft would end support for 98SE and ME users whilst still supporting updates for XP users alone.

What I think has happened is that they've introduced an incompatibility in SE1R248 and that error has been carried forward into later updates due to them not testing under 98SE or ME and NOT READING OUR POSTS highlighting there's a problem.

I, too, am a holdout user of Windows 98se. I thought the May 15 definition update was a temporary glitch, but the def update of May 20th did not resolve the problem. I'm still getting the same message as the other 98 users - "Definition files are either missing or corrupted." There may be more 98 users out there than software companies realize. Not everyone is enamored of Windows XP or Vista.

JUST LIKE EVERYONE ELSE IN THIS THREAD, I CAN NO LONGER UPDATE THE DEFINITIONS FOR MY AA SE PERSONAL - MANUAL UPDATES FAIL JUST AS INDICATED ABOVE - AND I TOO AM RUNNING IT ON WIN98SE. ALSO, I CANNOT UPDATE THE AA TO 2007 BECAUSE AA 2007 DOES NOT RUN ON WIN98SE. DOES ANYONE KNOW WHETHER AA 2008 RUNS ON WIN98SE (BEFORE I TRY TO INSTALL IT)?? PLEASE LAVASOFT FIX THIS PROBLEM - MY WIN98SE LAPTOP IS JUST FINE FOR MY PURPOSES - IT MAY BE A JALOPY BUT IT GETS ME THERE. THANKS. glnz

hi glnz,

No, unfortunately, ad-aware 2008 will not run on Win98 either. Lavasoft has taken the decision not to support legacy operating systems (such as Win98) and no longer supports Ad-Aware SE either.

It highly recommended that you move to another anti-malware software provider for legacy systems.

Sorry it's not the answer that you would have liked,

Casey

I don't know the ins-and-outs of SAS - I don't use it, nor have I any knowledge of it - my OS etc is in my signature...but it might be worth reading this.

Well I would like to say that when I used to have both SAS and Ad-Aware on my system I found that both found the same amount of tracking cookies each time, and I use SAS now due to Lavasoft ceasing support for ME and 98.

SAS for me anytime.

Any comment on the link, Eagleman...? I've already said that I don't use SAS...and my OS / AV / AS etc is in my signature.

But for other posters / readers re:SAS....is it safe...? (Marathon Man again - LOL) I'm NOT trying to be clever - just aware....

I don't really care what you use mate!!!

By the looks of what you have on your system you must have more Anti Spyware programs than anything else!, and I don't think you bought it just for that.

Gelert,

In response to your question about the link, then yes, it is safe. I have downloaded and installed SAS from that site.

Hope that helps,

Casey
