Well, lads & lassies, and pardon my ignorance & any apparent irreverence, but why, oh why, cannot a web-savvy, computer nerd Mecca such as Lavasoft just fix the auto upload feature so that we primitives don't have to muck about unzipping and other such unseemly behavior? I mean it's all well & good for those who live & breathe this stuff to talk about how easy it is to do these things, but if it's so easy then why can't the profis make it easy for the uncybered masses?

Automatic download-and-install works fine on one of my PC's (as per usual). Manual Download AND REBOOT works fine on the errant lappy (as usual). I can't get to the other Lappy that normally works fine on Auto-download-&-Install just at the moment....Mrs. Gelert is looking at her emails - LOL! Both are showing SE1R250 15.05.2008 loaded successfully in AdWatch. Both are stopping the http://www.autosport.com/ cookies.... Hooray - a'hem - sorry...! Eagleman - LS Digger Barnes made mention of issues relating to ISPs and LS Downloads in another thread. Do you want me to give you the link? *edit* WHAT IN THE NAME OF ALL THAT'S HOLY, IS GOING ON......! SE1R251 15.05.2008 has just been released....! Hurry up girls....blink and you'll miss it type-stuff, ffuxache...! SE1R251 15.05.2008 loaded manually onto errant lappy, rebooted, working, and stopping e.g. www.Autosport malarkey.... And now my mouse batteries need a serious re-charge...! *edit* SE1R251 15.05.2008 loaded automatically onto my desktop, no reboot necessary, working, and stopping Autosport cookies. And on top of my mouse batteries requiring a re-charge, I'm also REALLY bored of reading "Raikkonen fastest in pre-Monaco test". I'm a McLaren fan... Eagleman - LS Digger Barnes made mention of issues relating to ISPs and LS Downloads in another thread. Do you want me to give you the link? No, it's not an ISP issue, but thanks anyway. I am able to download and extract the file, but when I start the program I get that error message. Me thinks that Lavsoft have noticed the trick way to get this updated for users of the old AdAware S.E, and they may have added something to the files now that will stop the old program from working. One thing I forgot to mention is I use 98 S.E, and that is why I am using the older release. Not to worry tho, I also have Superantispy (SAS, and that works a treat and captures most of what Ad-Aware can do, oooops, sorry for the plug, lol |

It seems weird that certain updates this week work for some people and not others and that no-one appears to have gotten them all to work! The number of updates also seems strange (247-251). I'm using SE Personal, and have had no problems manually downloading def files since the end of last year. This week I tried installing both 250 and 251 and received the same error message as eagleman. Since I always keep older zipped definitions files until I know newer ones work, I still have 246 which I've reverted to. This post has been edited by Jaheira: May 15 2008, 11:01 PM |

I'm having similar problems - I've been downloading and manually loading def files [Reason: Win98SE] which worked ok until now.
I can install SE1R251 but when I try to open Ad-Aware to carry out a scan, I just get an error message to say the def file won't load. I've now re-installed SE1R247 and that works perfectly again. [I also keep old def files just in case]. Version: Ad-Aware SE Personal 6.2.0.236 Build: 1.06r1 This post has been edited by dshell: May 16 2008, 01:30 PM |

MMmmmm....
I'm running XP Pro SP3 on all of the three PC's that have AAW SE Plus installed - and I have NO problems.... Which program are you updating? Are you downloading the zip file manually and extracting it to the AdAware folder after renaming the current def file to old.def. This usually works for me, and was ok on the previous def which was SE1R247 13.05.2008, but not this current one SE1R249 15.05.2008. This has happened before, and I had to wait till the next update, and I normally found that it would be ok then, so I will need to wait for a future update after the 15.05.2008 Yes, the current def file (15.5.2008) is corrupt and I messed up and deleted the prior def file (13.5.2008). Does anyone know if the def. file from 13.5.2008 is still available for downloading? |

I run Ad-Aware SE Personal 1.06r1 on windows ME since 2005. I went to update the def. file and
manually downloaded the update for 15/05/08 and when I went to open the download and update my def. files I rec'd. the message " problem updating def. files". Then I tried to open the program to do a scan the program opened with the message " def. files have been corrupted" and could not perform the scan. I haven't saved any of the previous updates and I deleted the corrupted Ad-Aware file except for the original installation download with def. file # SE1R47. This def. file is OVER 1000 days old ..Is there any way to get the previous, recent, updates?? Either from Lavasoft or from another user out there with the same problem but who saved their updates. It would be greatly appreciated it.. Thanks, Steve |

Im having same problem with SE1R251 but only for Win98SE. I have Ad-Aware SE Personal 1.06r1 running both on Win98SE
and Win XP Pro SP2. I downloaded and manually installed defs file SE1R251 15.05.2008 to both PCs, but gives same error 'Definitions not loaded or invalid' on win98SE only. Works OK on XP Pro SP2. |

Looks like they have written something in the file that stops it from working for Windows 98. Forgot to say that I'm also running Ad-Aware SE Personal 1.06r1 under Win98SE! I can't see why they'd victimize 98SE and ME users. If they didn't want people to continue using Ad-Aware SE they wouldn't make manual updates available........... I think this is a case of Lavasoft not testing the definition files in question for 98SE and ME compatibility. This post has been edited by Jaheira: May 19 2008, 06:59 PM |

Forgot to say that I'm also running Ad-Aware SE Personal 1.06r1 under Win98SE! Aaaaah...THIS explains why you felt that a re-boot ISN'T necessary...! SE Personal doesn't use AdWatch. SE Plus and/or Pro uses AdWatch - and any MANUAL defs.file update doesn't get picked-up by AdWatch UNTIL your PC is re-booted...! I can't see why they'd victimize 98SE and ME users. If they didn't want people to continue using Ad-Aware SE they wouldn't make manual updates available........... I think this is a case of Lavasoft not testing the definition files in question for 98SE and ME compatibility. Victimised...? I run XP Pro SP3. I PAID for 2 Years support for SE Plus, supposedly lasting until 24 January 2009. AND my Licence Expiration date is 13 March 2009. I should feel miffed already, as AAW 2007 doesn't do anything for me - AT ALL....! Hey...whatever...AVG Free 8.0 has just been released - it's as bloated as AAW 2007 - and their forum is full of very similar comments from very similar posters. AAW 2007 is about to be replaced by AAW 2008...allegedly! Hopefully(?) AAW 2008 will have AdWatch...which will STOP cookies landing BEFORE, er, they, er, land...! If there's enough interest, I can post a "You Send It" Zip of defs.file SE1R247 13.05.2007, which seems to be the last defs.file that works with Win98. PM me...but if I get overwhelmed by Win98 users, hopefully the Mods / LS will help me out...? Rant over... Ciao, Gelert. QUOTE Victimised...? I think you'll find that it can be spelled with a 'z' or an 's' in the UK. I Think victimize is the only correct way in the USA. |

Looks like eagleman could be right when he said 'Looks like they have written something in the file that stops it from working for Windows 98' I'm not happy! |

SE1R250 15.05.2008 Nope, this one will not load either! After as I normally extract it to the folder and then I execute the program it says Error while loading the Ad-Aware definitions file. I had the same problem today with SE1R252, the latest def update for SE. Apparantly, nobody at Lavasoft is reading our posts. Or, are they even going to fix the problem at all? Some support we are gettting! |

As a fellow Win98SE user with the same problem with not being able to install SE1R252, I wonder if Lavasoft has decided to abandon us after promising to support Win98SE? It's sad that Lavasoft is doing this to us, as SpyBot S&D has announced continuing support for Win98SE. If Lavasoft is going to support Ad-Aware SE, then they need to include Win98 support. |

Some support we are gettting! I agree with you. I suggest that you look here and download the latest version 4.1.1046, it supports older systems too unlike this Lavasoft rubbish software! Try this and report back. http://www.superantispyware.com/index.html |

As I said before, I can't see any reason why Lavasoft would end support for 98SE and ME users whilst still supporting updates for XP users alone.
What I think has happened is that they've introduced an incompatibility in SE1R248 and that error has been carried forward into later updates due to them not testing under 98SE or ME and NOT READING OUR POSTS highlighting there's a problem. |
