I don't like this version at all. Not only can't I remove the old version, I am unable to remove the 209 infected objects it has found on this computer. The previous version was so simple to use. What am I doing wrong? How do I remove them? This version is way to complicated for a not so tech savy computer person.

Hi stevie1023,
First, open the "Settings" tab in AAW 2007. I'll run through my recommended basic settings for each sub-tab: Browsers: Click on "Read Setting" and AAW 2007 will read your settings from IE - this helps AAW2007 identify any changes by malware to your existing browser settings (ie: re-directs etc). Scanning: ![]() I don't bother with MRUs - Most Recently Used apps - similar to the list of recent documents in MS Office. I also have the "Skip files larger.." selected, but with a smaller file size (sometimes a scan can get bogged-down on a very large or compressed file. The limit I've used is still large enough to cover malware. Auto Scans ![]() Make sure that every option under the "Safety" section is selected. UI ![]() WebUpdate ![]() These are all pretty standard and are much the same as in the previous version, AAW SE 1.06 QUOTE I am unable to remove the 209 infected objects it has found on this computer If you have MRUs selected (first screen shot), I would recommend de-selecting them (red cross) - these are just the list of most recently used programs, similar to the list of recent documents in MS Word. If you have MRUs selected, they will always clog-up your "Privacy Objects" results - that is also where any detected tracking cookies are placed in your scan results. The main part of your scan results to concentrate on in AAW 2007 comes under the "Critical Objects" tab: Is this where you are having trouble removing objects? Regards, Spike |

Thanks spike-nz. When the scan was finished i just clicked the remove tab and nothing happened. I will follow your instructions and see what happens. Thanks for all the help. This new version just takes a little getting use to. The other one was so simple.

Hello again stevie1023,
Another point to remember is that in AAW 2007, you can only Quarantine items found under the "Critical Objects" tab - anything listed under "Privacy Objects" (eg: tracking cookies or MRUs) may only either be deleted or if a particular cookie is required for functionality at a particular site, put it in "Ignore". I agree with Stevie1023. This version is not easy to understand at all. I am following your recommendations step by step to see if my settings are correct. However, for some unknown reason, my "Update Definitins File at startup is greyed out. Why?
Under UI-Skin-Current skin: What is the difference between Sedona and Ad-Aware Pro? I downloaded the free version and am using the Pro version. Am I wrong? Now, how do I send this? Songbird |

Hi songbird,
Sorry, I'm using a licensed version, so some of my screenshots may be a little misleading (sorry) - the "Update Definitions File at startup" is a feature of the licensed Plus and Pro versions and is not available to AAW 2007 Free users - that is why it is grayed out. The wording on the skin-files (Sedona/AAW 2007 Pro default) needs tweaking. Basically, AAW 2007 default is the blue program skin and Sedona is the red colour that I use: ![]() Experiment with each one until you decide which you prefer - I have a plain, ash-grey desktop colour, so the red Sedona stands out better for me. Regards, Spike |
