Ad-Aware tries installing when I open Device Manager

Uninstall delete issues virus program files install

Best Answer CeciliaB , 11 September 2015 - 02:08 PM

You're welcome :)

Lavasoft asks if you allow them to connect to your computer to try to remove the registry entry. You'll see everything they do, and you'll be able to stop them and communicate with them. If you accept it, please send me your email address and when you're available in a PM. Lavasoft will respond in another PM and later on send you a file by email.

How do I completely remove all Lavasoft and Ad-Aware products? I still have remnants of something because when I open the device manager on my Windows 10 PC it automatically opens a new dialog box where Ad-aware is trying to install something without my permission. I have previously uninstalled and removed what I thought were all the files pertaining to that program. Please help as this is very annoying.

Hi acelucky13,

Are there any devices from Ad-Aware, Lavasoft or Bitdefender in the section for non Plug and Play devices, if you select to show hidden devices in the View menu of the Device Manager?

If yes, please try to uninstall them by right-clicking the device.

If not or if it doesn't help:

Please, download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST) and save it on the desktop:
For 64 bits Windows: http://download.blee...rbar/FRST64.exe
For 32 bits Windows: http://download.blee...farbar/FRST.exe

Start the FRST program.

Read the disclaimer and click Yes to accept it.
Click Scan button.
When done, FRST will create two log files, called FRST.txt and Addition.txt, on the desktop.

Please, attach them to your reply (press "More Reply Options" button to see how to attach files).

Thank you for the logs.

1. The uninstallation seems to have failed and left a lot behind. Did you have any issues during the uninstallation, e.g. error messages?

2. There are left-overs of Avast antivirus program, I suggest that you run their special Avast Uninstall Utility: https://www.avast.co...install-utility

3. Please, move FRST from the folder Downloads to your Desktop.

Start Notepad, please.
Copy all text that is in the box:

CreateRestorePoint:
CloseProcesses:
AdAwareInstaller (Version: 11.7.485.8398 - Lavasoft) Hidden
AdAwareUpdater (Version: 11.7.485.8398 - Lavasoft) Hidden
AntimalwareEngine (Version: 3.0.98.0 - Lavasoft) Hidden
AntispamEngine (Version: 2.4.3171.0 - Lavasoft) Hidden
AvcEngine (Version: 3.10.7820.0 - Lavasoft) Hidden
FirewallEngine (Version: 1.6.0.0 - Lavasoft) Hidden
HKLM\...\Run: [AdAwareTray] => "C:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware Antivirus\Ad-Aware Antivirus\11.7.485.8398\AdAwareTray.exe"
S3 avc3; C:\Windows\System32\DRIVERS\avc3.sys [727592 2015-01-06] (BitDefender)
S3 avckf; C:\Windows\System32\DRIVERS\avckf.sys [601360 2015-01-06] (BitDefender)
S3 Trufos; C:\Windows\System32\DRIVERS\Trufos.sys [452040 2015-01-22] (BitDefender S.R.L.)
S1 bdfwfpf; \??\C:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware Antivirus\Firewall Engine\1.6.0.0\Drivers\bdfwfpf.sys [X]
C:\Program Files\Lavasoft\
C:\Windows\System32\DRIVERS\Trufos.sys
C:\Windows\System32\DRIVERS\avckf.sys
C:\Windows\System32\DRIVERS\avc3.sys
Reboot:
and paste in Notepad. Check that no files have been split on two lines.
Save the file as fixlist.txt on the desktop.

Exit all programs.
Start FRST, please.
Click the Fix button.
Wait until the tool has finished and the computer rebooted.

It creates a log file, called Fixlog.txt, on the desktop.
Please, paste the content of that file in your reply.

4. What happens if you try to uninstall all Ad-Aware programs that now are visible in the Control Panel's list of installed programs?

5. Have the computer been infected?

There seems to be a lot of Alternate Data Streams, e.g.:

AlternateDataStreams: C:\Users\Andrew Boyce\AppData\Local\Temp:Win32App
and it's seldom I see that.

6. There are several versions of Java installed.

Java 8 Update 51 (HKLM-x32\...\{26A24AE4-039D-4CA4-87B4-2F83218051F0}) (Version: 8.0.510 - Oracle Corporation)
Java 8 Update 60 (HKLM-x32\...\{26A24AE4-039D-4CA4-87B4-2F83218060F0}) (Version: 8.0.600.27 - Oracle Corporation)
JavaFX 2.1.1 (HKLM-x32\...\{1111706F-666A-4037-7777-211328764D10}) (Version: 2.1.1 - Oracle Corporation)
Old versions are vulnerable and can be exploited by a web page to infect the computer.

I received error 1721. There is a problem with the Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run.

Action: UninstallSecurityCenterApp. Location: C:\ Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-AwareAntivirus\Ad-AwareAntivirus\11.7.485.8398\\AdAwareSecurityCenter.exe command:--uninstall.

This happened only for the AdAwareInstaller Program, the rest uninstalled perfectly fine.

As far as I can see from the logs, everything of Ad-Aware has been deleted, except for that entry in the list with installed programs and it can't harm the computer.

Do you get any messages when you open the Device Manager now?

When I click on the File Explorer icon in the taskbar the original problem occurs of Ad-Aware trying to install before I manually cancel it.

But not in Device Manager any more?

Does it occur when you right-click a file in File Explorer?

When I left click on the actual file folder icon to get into file manager on windows 10 it happens. Doesn't seem to be happening in Device Manager now but every time I click to go into my files as previously said it happens. I want Lavasoft and Ad-Aware completely gone.

Please see the attached documents that you had requested regarding my ongoing problem. The Ad-Aware "self" install occurs each time I left click the my files icon on the task bar. Thanks.

1. Did you have any issues during the first uninstallation of Ad-Aware, e.g. error messages?

How did you uninstall Ad-Aware and remove its file the first time?

2. Please, start Notepad.
Copy all text that is in the box:

CreateRestorePoint:
CloseProcesses:
S1 BdfNdisf; \??\C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\netlwf.inf_amd64_neutral_52e20f0ba6914be8\bdfndisf6.sys [X]
C:\ProgramData\Lavasoft
Reboot:
and paste in Notepad. Check that no files have been split on two lines.
Save the file as fixlist.txt on the desktop.

Exit all programs.
Start FRST, please.
Click the Fix button.
Wait until the tool has finished.

It creates a log file, called Fixlog.txt, on the desktop.
Please, paste the content of that file in your reply.

As I remember I did not have any issues. I believe I removed it through the control panel Add/Remove Programs in Windows 7. Will post my results next.

There is a left-over of Ad-Aware in the Windows registry somewhere and it isn't visible in the logs.

I'll ask my contact person at Lavasoft if they know something about it.
