Hi Jordan!

Is it only the search engine you want to remove?
You can handle search engines by clicking on the little arrow to the left of the search field and choose "Manage search engines" (or similar phrase).

I have a similar problem: the Lavasoft browser has taken over my google chrome. I've uninstalled it, removed it from the list of browsers in my internet options, set google as my default, deleted the lavasoft homepage, unpinned google chrome from my taskbar, restarted the computer, repinned google chrome to the taskbar, all to no avail. When i click on the google chrome icon it pops up lavasoft. There is no "little arrow" to the left of the lavasoft search field so i can set a different default browser. I can open internet explorer and google as the default, but this is silly. Any suggestions?

Hi Siusan,

My previous description was for Firefox, since that was Jordan's issue (as well is the title of this topic). It was also about the search engine, but I think you want to change the start page. Is that correct?

I don't have Chrome, but maybe one of these pages can help you find the correct setting:

Hello, I have tried this in chrome at least 10 times.  And it works each time - sometimes for weeks at a time.  But as soon as I reboot my machine my browser is hijacked again and I'm back to that horrible lavasoft-blekko homepage.  I have followed all of the steps above each time after I reboot - but lavasoft is no longer in my list of start pages or search engines and ad aware is no longer installed.  I have even completely cleared my search history and cookies in browser.  Please help.

I like to start using 'where I was last time' as I usually have 10 tabs open at once that I'm working in.  Do I have to physically force it to open somewhere else in order for lavasoft - which has been completely uninstalled for months now - to leave me alone?

BTW, I used to love ad-aware.  I installed it on many people's machines that whom I help with computer issues.  Now I think it's hijack-ware and tell everyone to avoid it.  Hijacking our browsers was way out of line.

Hi tharpster,

Please, save AdwCleaner by Xplode on the desktop: http://general-chang...de/2-adwcleaner

Turn off all programs, including browsers.
Double-click on AdwCleaner to start the program.

Click on the Search button.
Wait until the search has finished.
A report will be displayed, copy its content and paste into your answer.
If the report isn't displayed, it exist as C:\AdwCleaner[R1].txt.
