I've been an ad-aware user for quite awhile.

I wanted to upgrade to Ad-aware 10.5, but the installation kept failing:
"Ad-Aware had encountered an error during the installation"

So I decided to uninstall 10.4, and I am getting error 1722.

I've made alot of important changes to my computer in the past couple of months, and I really need to avoid rolling ALL of them back just because of one program.

What are the more practical options?

Hi gogeta110,

Have you followed the instruction in How to uninstall Ad-Aware 10.x?

Yep :) that was my first stop.
Both of these methods end up interrupted before finishing. I am sure to close ad-aware and browsers before i do it

DKielby wrote a good description of how he/she solved the problem:

First I looked in the Programs and Features control panel. I found three Ad-Aware installations.
1. Ad-Aware Security Add-on v2.2.0.11
2. Ad-Aware Browsing Protection v1.0.1.41
3. Ad-Aware Antivirus v10.2.21.3698

I successfully uninstalled the Security Add-on. I successfully uninstalled Browsing Protection. Then, the Antivirus program which remained offered two choices; 'CHANGE' and 'REPAIR'. There was no option to uninstall. I did not even look at the CHANGE option. I ran the REPAIR option. The repair process did it's thing and disappeared.

Try that before you uninstall Ad-Aware Antivirus.

Yea, I was also able to uninstall the browser protection (didn't have the security add-on), but the regular ad-aware still won't go away.

The repair functions works (at least it doesn't report an error), but I don't know what its actually reparing :S i still get the same error. I can't install 10.5 and i can't uninstall 10.4

windows is saying that it had a "fatal error during installation." this is making me sad

Then it might be a problem with the MSI installer in Windows. Please, run Fixit tool from Microsoft: http://support.micro...l_and_Uninstall
Uninstall Ad-Aware before trying to install the new version.

Edit: If that doesn't help, please specify which Windows you have.
