I had tried a trial of the Ad-Aware Pro but it has caused problems with my computer. I un-installed it then tried re-installing the free version but the Pro version still shows as being installed. How can I get rid of the Pro version for good? Thank you.

Hi Rynn,

Do you have another antivirus program installed?
It is not recommended to run Ad-Aware 10.1 together with another antivirus program.

The installation file of Ad-Aware 10.1 always installs the trial version. To get only the functions in the Free version, you have to disable all functions under "Advanced protection" on the main screen of Ad-Aware.

Hi piobaxter,

Ad-Aware 10.0 and 10.1 installation programs will always install "Ad-Aware Pro 30-day Trial". Does that answer your question?

"Your complete line-of-defense against malware and cyber threats. Feature packed, lean and powerful anti-malware solution, without the conflicts or slow-downs typically associated with running multiple security programs."

"It is not recommended to use Ad-Aware 10.1 together with another antivirus program. Ad-Aware 9.6 only has limited real-time protection, while Ad-Aware 10.1 has full real-time protection. Using two programs with full real-time protection can cause conflicts."

?!?!

Is it possible to have only Ad-aware anti-spyware with real-time protection (without anti-virus) with Free version?

Thanks for the reply.

Hi kamyogi,

Ad-Aware 10 has only one engine for all types of malicious files, while Ad-Aware 9 has two. The reason is that one engine uses less resources (memory, CPU load) than two and many persons complained that Ad-Aware 9 was too heavy. It is not possible to turn off detection of certain types of malicious files. I don't understand why you want that.

I don't understand why you have the quotes followed by "?!?!". Ad-Aware 10 is a complete security program with a lot of features that doesn't need to be used together with another program to protect your computer. Using only one program will use less computer resources than having several security programs.

Hi Mod,

"?!?!" marks because of contradiction between these two statements. One found on the introduction page of Lavasoft and the other by you just a bit earlier in this thread.

I didn't mean to turn off protection against certain malicious files. Just want to turn off Lavasoft Anti-virus while keeping the Ad-aware anti-spyware Real-time protection on. Its because I prefer other anti-virus program and want to avoid conflict between these two.

You have a point though suggesting use a single program for thorough protection. But, my question remains still unanswered. Is it possible with the Lavasoft Free version to turn-off its anti-virus engine while having anti-spyware real-time protection activated?

Thanks in advace.

Hi kamyogi,

You are welcome :)

Sorry, but I don't see the contradiction. The web page says that Ad-Aware 10 is a complete defence against all types of malicious files and by using only one product (Ad-Aware 10) you will get a faster computer with less conflicts than if you use several products. I think that is very much like what I wrote.

It wouldn't help to turn of detection of viruses, the same drivers are used for detection, protection and removal of viruses, trojans, spyware, ad-ware and other types of malicious files. It is the use of two sets of drivers (from two security programs) that is the reason for the conflicts.

No, it is not possible to turn off an antivirus engine in Ad-Aware 10, since no special antivirus engine exists. There is only one engine for all types of malicious files. If you could turn off the engine (uninstall the drivers), there would be no real-time protection at all.

Was this a better explanation?

Thanks Mod,

It is indeed a better explanation and also I appreciate your patience. I understand now that there's no contradiction and also obtained my answer.

Thankyou very much.

You are welcome, kamyogi :)

You can still use Ad-Aware 9.6 if you prefer that and it can be downloaded from FileHippo.
