I've been a long...LONG time user and recommended Ad-aware to many people. However, this latest effort is a HUGE disappointment. It looks great but it seems to function poorly and I can't seem to make it better. Yesterday the performance got considerably worse (not sure if my wife updated yesterday or not, she says she didn't, but it could have auto updated I guess). Here is a cut/paste of what I sent to tech support earlier.

About 10 days ago I upgraded to Ad-Aware 10 due to an in program prompt. (I am a paying customer)

Since that I'm I've experienced lags in web surfing and website response. Beginning last night it became unbearable. Chrome would simply stop responding. At first I believed it was a Chrome issue so I fired up IE, also no response.

What I noticed is once the connection slows/stops none of the browsers work again until a restart. Which by the way has to be done by holding down the power button on the computer. The response issue for websurfing/browsers is somehow impacting the performance of the entire system so that basic windows functions including ctrl/alt/del no longer function or function on a 2 or 3 minute delay.

Initially I thought that my machine had somehow become infected so I began a series of steps to try to determine the issue. What I found was booting in safe mode caused no laggy internet or PC issues. Rebooting and signing in normally would work but quickly becomes troublesome with various ad-aware features turned on. I now have ALL of the real time monitoring turned off and have ONLY antivirus/anti spyware turned on at the moment. So far (about 30 mins) the system is performing well.

So basically I'm paying for features I can't use. Version 9 worked quite well, this version 10 seems to have some real issues. I've done some google searching and I am not the only one experiencing these sort of issues. Please get this resolved as soon as possible and advise on possible steps to maximize protection while minimizing the negative impacts on my system.

I am not using other software/virus protection so there are no conflicts to worry about. But my machine basically becomes unusable shortly after I begin enabling the various real time type features. I've tried various combo's of the ad-aware feature set, initially I thought it was related to the safe banking feature. So I disabled it and still had the problem. Then I thought it was maybe the networking and e-mail protection, disabled those, still had the problem. So then I disabled the safe browsing and real time protection (at hte same time, probably should have done them one at a time). Then the problem went away. So I re-enabled the real time protection and within 10 mins the same thing began happening and I had to hardboot my laptop again.

This is a windows 7 64bit machine with a core i5 processor.

Anyone have any thoughts? I'm really REALLY tempted to dump the 10.x stuff and go back to 9. Then go to something all together different when my license is up.

Hi 6SpeedTA95,

This is a forum with mainly volunteers.
Lavasoft support will not answer any support requests during the weekend and depending on number of requests received it may take some days before it is your turn. To be able to investigate your problem, I think it is necessary to know which drivers that are loaded in your computer and the easiest way is to let support connect to your computer. But I can try to find out with the help of a program like DDS that lists running processes, automatically started processes, services and drivers if you prefer that.

Save DDS to your desktop: http://download.blee...om/sUBs/dds.scr

Double-click on the DDS tool to run it.

When finished, DDS will open two (2) logs:
1. DDS.txt
2. Attach.txt

Save them to your desktop and paste the content of DDS.txt into your answer.
It is very late now, so I'll will read it tomorrow.

Since there seems to be more people experiencing the same thing. Here's some additional information...

As I stated originally this began happening last night in the third quarter of the Thunder game. According to the event log SBAMsvc.exe crashed at 9:52:49 PM central time. There are five more crashes in the log, which means it probably failed to log one or two when I did a hard shut down.

The log has numerous crashes today as well with the same service. Now it is my understanding this service IS associated with Ad-Aware. I e-mailed a buddy of mine who also runs (or at least used to run) ad-aware to see if he had similar issues last night.

I'm also running an ASUS laptop.

Edit: a couple other items that may be of note. Beginning earlier this week (not sure which day) or perhaps last weekend I began having issues viewing webpages and pulling up pictures. I had to disable the safe banking feature in order for websites which I have viewed for years to work properly. The best example was viewing ebay motors...it was basically impossible start last weekend (or could have been a bit before that, I don't go there everyday). It would block all the content and say to disable safe banking...just another data point that I thought I would throw in to the pot.

Hey Speed. I am running an Asus A 53S Intel Core I7 Windows 7 OS. I don't believe our software issue is computer specific. My problems happened to 3 different units. Wondering if Windows Defender could be the culprit.

@6SpeedTA95 and dwellmer:
There are some Asus specific low-level drivers in the log, that might be in conflict with Ad-Aware low-level drivers. So it is possible that it is an Asus specific problem.

@6SpeedTA95:
You are correct, SBAMsvc.exe is a service of Ad-Aware.
Please note http://www.systemloo...tbuTo2_dll.html which is a toolbar that is installed in your computer.

2012-06-14 02:41:45 149504 ----a-w- C:\Windows\System32\rdpcorekmts.dll
That Windows file was updated recently, as you can see. Since you said that it got worse around that time, that maybe has some influence too.

2012-06-15 03:04:12 426184 ----a-w- C:\Windows\SysWow64\FlashPlayerApp.exe
Flash Player was also recently updated, and the latest version has a new feature (some kind of sandbox) which caused problems with Firefox. Firefox has now released an update to fix that problem. It is also possible that it has some bad influence on Ad-Aware.

The above times are probably given in UTC, which is roughly the same as Central European Time. Can you correlate any of these updates to the time when you got more problems?

Regarding "Shop & Bank...", it often has false positives. If reported in the forum, Lavasoft usually fixes it fast: http://www.lavasofts...false-positive/

The toolbar has been installed for 8 or so months, but it's disabled and never been used. I don't think thats it...if it is, why did it just start Thursday night when it's been installed for months?
The flash player update was fairly close in time but if it was related to a flash update I'd expect to see a LOT more people with the problem as most people run flash.

Sorry, I didn't mean that the toolbar has anything to do with your current problem. It was just a note that you maybe don't want to have it for safety reasons (it should be possible to uninstall the toolbar without uninstalling the program).

Is it possible for you to uninstall Flash and see if that has any influence on the behaviour?
Or maybe revert to an older version? http://forums.adobe....022066?tstart=0

A lot of persons don't update small programs as Flash and Java, so I'm not sure that a problem related to the latest Flash would be seen by a lot of persons yet.

Earlier the reported serious problems in the forum has mostly been related to bluescreens (BSOD) immediately after installing Ad-Aware, but you and dwellmer reported another type of problem occurring at the same time.

If I need to go the route of reverting to an older flash I can do that. I'll see what Lavasoft has to say before I start scrapping things on my box. It is possible that its flash related...but then I guess I'd have to say if that were the case why would it impact sites that aren't using flash? In otherwords, all I was doing was surfing a message board yesterday when it crapped out...the first night I did have youtube up and ESPN...

We'll see...

Have you got any response from Lavasoft, 6SpeedTA95?

Yeah, I was just coming on here to post. What an ordeal...

I had to send them a bunch of log files...so I sent them all, looked a few of them could see "ERR" and a bunch of codes in an excel file that was about 24,000 lines long. I included it for them at their request. Then they respond to me today and say everything looks normal and to do an uninstall, reboot and reinstall.

I went to start, programs, ad-aware and chose the uninstall option and unchecked the boxes to keep files as they specifically said in the e-mail. I get 50% through the uninstall process and blue screen IRQ_NOT_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL or something to that effect. So I hard boot the box, it comes up and finishes the uninstall. I reboot again and the system comes up and NO network connectivity. The system refused to connect via wifi or hardwire.

To make a long troubleshooting story short I wound up doing a system restore. I'm back up and have now successfully uninstalled adaware, but needless to say I'm very hesitant to reinstall this product.

:( I'm sorry that you had such problem uninstalling Ad-Aware. Do you know the difference between the unsuccessful and the successful uninstallation?

Please, report back to support what happened with your computer and what you did to solve the problem. Then they know how to solve it if someone else has the same bad luck.

Maybe you should wait for Ad-Aware version 10.2.

I reported it to them. They were always nice over the e-mail but they weren't paying attention to what I was writing. That was very annoying. It's like they were only reading the first sentence or two and skipping the rest of the e-mail :(

I've got it uninstalled and frankly after the overall experience, I'm done. I hate to jump ship after using a companies products for years and years but I never expected to have these sorts of issues with their product. Then after having the issues I expected their support to be more attentive and actually pay attention to what the customer was saying. I'm now using a different product. :( But it is working quite well and my internet is back to being snappy fast.
