Hey,

I installed Ad-Aware 10 just 2 days ago, and I've decided to uninstall it for now. But when I try to do that; I'll get the following message:

Posted Image

When you click "Browse", it wants to find "Ad-Aware Antivirus.msi", which doesn't exist. I tried to manually get the msiexec uninstall string from the registry, but it doesn't exist. I have also tried to re-install it (and rebooted) - with no success. How can I proceed from here?

Hi Chopin,

I got some questions to you from my contact person at Lavasoft:

Which Windows do you have? Is it 32 or 64 bits Windows?

Have Ad-Aware 10.1 worked well during those two days or have you had issues using it?

Did you have Ad-Aware version 10.0 installed before you installed 10.1?
If yes: Did you uninstall 10.0 before installing 10.1? How long time did you have 10.0? Did it work well?

From where downloaded you Ad-Aware 10.1?
Did you download and save the installation file before starting the installation or did you run it while downloading it?
Where did you save the installation file, if you saved it?

Do you have another antivirus program and/or firewall installed?

Can you find the string "Ad-Aware Antivirus.msi" in the registry at all?

Hi Chopin,

Please click the link below to download and install the following program:
http://www.revounins...are-version.php
  • Open it and use it to uninstall Ad-Aware using the 'Advanced' Uninstall Mode.
  • In Step 4 of the uninstall make sure to click the 'Select All' button and then the 'Delete' button when prompted and then click Next
  • When Revo is finished, reboot your computer

This should hopefully resolve the issue.

Hi CeciliaB,

I have Windows 7 x64 and had no problems using Ad-Aware the 2 days I had it. This was a clean install; I had no Lavasoft products installed prior to this. I downloaded the software from the official homepage (which points to CNet) and I saved the file locally in "Downloads" where it still exists. I have no firewall or antivirus installed. I also could not find the msi filename in regedit.

Hi LS Sharon,

Since the software seems to somehow have lost it's GUID, it's no longer visible as an installed product. It did not show in Revo Uninstaller, not even after a re-install of Ad-Aware.

I got it working. I started the computer in failsafe mode and deleted the Ad-Aware folder in Program files (had to unregister DLL files).

I also manually deleted following registry entries:

As you can see, "Ad-Aware Antivirus.msi" was in the registry although I searched for it and couldn't find it

I then rebooted windows normally and re-installed Ad-Aware and was then able to uninstall successfully.

Many thanks,
Chopin
