I finally had to unplug, then restart in safe mode & run system restore. What’s up with that?
The system restore brought me back to Ad-Aware v10.0.185.3207 (what I had before this disastrous update.) I had absolutely no problems with version 10 previously. In fact, I really liked the upgrades.
Has anyone else experienced the same problem?
What’s the solution?
BTW, I have Vista (64) Home Premium.
Thanks…

Since you have a really serious problem with Ad-Aware 10.1, you might contact Lavasoft directly if you prefer that: http://lavasoft.com/..._problem_reportThe Ad-Aware update v10.1.211.3382 froze my system. It installed just fine, but after the required reboot, EVERYTHING froze: I couldn’t even shut down the computer.

it did work until reboot... after reboot everything went to hell again... windows halts on startup, you cant do anything... like some process of adaware isnt doing what it should be... and it gets stuck... you cant do anything but hard reboot... i spent a good 2 hours trying installss and uninstalss, invane. D*mn and 10.0.xxx is working like a charm... they changed something, but for some reason it locks up on some computers.. i wonder how many really have troubles...

There are new drivers in 10.1 since the drivers in 10.0 gave BSOD in many computers, but for you it got worse instead. I suggest that you contact Lavasoft as I wrote in post #4.

That worked. It would certainly be unreasonable to expect users to go through all that for each & every minor update… but hopefully, my previous 10.1 update problem was an anomaly & won’t recur (fingers crossed!)

I had no problem installing 10.1 when 10.0 was installed, but we have different software installed and different hardware. Let us hope that next update installs properly in your computer, too.
Do you have another antivirus program or firewall installed or maybe have run a registry cleaning program since you installed 10.0 the first time?
That could give problems.

However, even after the clean reinstall of v10.1, Ad-Aware STILL freezes my entire computer, to the point where it takes 5 minutes just to shut down so I can reboot. This happens when Ad-Aware updates definitions: it gets as far as “applying,” then just hangs there. Once that happens, EVERYTHING freezes.
None of Ad-Aware’s previous versions ever gave me these headaches. At this point, I don’t even care why v10.1 is so hypersensitive. It’s just become way too problematical for me. It’s time to cut my losses & uninstall Ad-Aware completely & permanently… which I just did.

It froze my computer, could not restart it, forced shutdown, etc.
Ended up doing a system restore to before I did the update. Now it seems I will have o Ad Aware at all. Any reason for this unneeded update? The old one worked fine. I have a virus protection program already.

Personally I think Ad-Aware 10 is much better than Ad-Aware 9. It has a nicer user interface, uses less resources and I prefer to have only one product instead of two since that requires less memory and CPU time. My computer has not frozen, had any difficulties with restarting or any other problem related to Ad-Aware.This exact thing happened to me when I updated the old Ad Aware that did not have 'virus' protection on it.

Did you run the manufacturer's special removal/clean-up tool to remove the left-overs from the usual uninstallation of your previous antivirusprogram?
