I received an email offer from Lavasoft for a limited time offer to upgrade to Ad-Aware Pro for $14.95 and receive Registry Tuner for Free.

There is something Phishy about this email, since it was address to "NULL" at my email address.

Is is legit?

Hi Sidmariner,

Yes, it is Legitimate. I informed my contact person at Lavasoft that the address is strange.

Please tell the Lavasoft management that the "free credit report" ad in the offer is for a known scam company that has had multiple complaints -- hidden fees, continuing to charge people after they try to cancel -- leading to legal action by the United States Federal Trade Commission.

It's a big mistake to be pushing that at your users. It may be the main company behind the "trial free" push, it's a nasty scam.

Hi Hank,

Thanks for your report. We are aware that there is a lot of foul play in the “free credit report” industry. There are indeed dubious companies that are trying to scam users.

Lavasoft does not offer or partner with companies offering free credit reports.

We do partner with one company offering credit monitoring which is completely different. Once the user completes a form – we monitor his credit standing with the 3 large US players and alert the user if a change/request has been made. If they have applied for a credit card or a loan or something similar – then it’s normal… If they haven’t – then it’s a trigger that somebody may have tampered with their ID and the first sign to be on the lookout.

Rest assured that Lavasoft selected a reputable company that plays more than clean and is used by other security solutions vendors.

Regards

Andy
