I've been having the same prob since just before Xmas. Uninstalled and reinstalled the program, then tried to run the update. Although several files were downloaded and installed, CSC39-EN-0-11356-F.sbr.sgn.f... (79844KB) didn't proceed in its download more than 1/8" on the progress bar, then the process simply quit. I am operating under Win XP Pro w/SP-3 and have never had this prob before.

Now that I look again at my log, I gather that current version 0 of "extended definition" means the update did not complete properly.

I to have these issues on 2 windows 7 computers. I'm not going to update my Vista computer with version 9.0.7 until the others work.
I tried to import the definitions manually. That didn't work. I check my firewall settings.
I tried manually downloading and updating the definitions file core.aawdef. That didn't work.
I checked your last post, but on my computer, there is no /logs folder.
Just thought I would offer you that info.

Which version of Ad-Aware do you have on the Vista computer where the updates work?
Version 9.0.7 is pretty old, I hope you will upgrade to 9.6 when the update problem is solved.

HI.
I am having the same problem,
I have had an update problem for a few days now (that I know of) and have observed a similar pattern of events described by the previous people posting in this thread, i.e. update is very slow, then stops with less than 20% of download complete and crashes Ad-Aware ("MS system 32" keeps asking for firewall access to tell MSoft that Ad-Aware has crashed).

Oops, I forgot.

We are running Vista Ultimate and the free version of Ad-Aware, which (up until now) was a needed and good back up Avira Premium Security.


P.s. I noted some grumbles about the quality/stability of Ad-Aware, I think the update issue is microscopic when compared to the ones we have experienced with the Avira Premium Security (which will be removed in the next couple of months).
Try living with a firewall and/or real-time scanning/protection that for no apparent reason vanishes and then some time later restarts all by itself ....

Why do I have this sneaking suspicion that this issue's having developed over the holidays was no coincidence? Methinks some Lavasoft techie erred in the construction of the major update file, went on vacation, and will rectify the gaffe on his or her return to work!

I checked the announcement which said "This problem is only affecting users that have uninstalled/reinstalled Ad-Aware, or have installed Ad-Aware for the first time."
I assume the statement missed the inclusion of long established free versions of Ad-aware. I went for almost a week with this problem before I reinstalled Ad-Aware.

Hi Fred,

The problems with updating started around 1st of January and then most users got problems. Lavasoft implemented a couple of fixes during last week and the remaining problem should only affect those who has reinstalled or installed this year. According to your description, you are one of them that have reinstalled Ad-Aware in January.

there is no logs in my adaware folder, so i cant try this on the 2nd machine that wont update
